Staff Picks: Kait’s Top Albums of 2013

Disclosure – Settle – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/latch-feat.-sam-smith/id649157100?uo=4″ title=”Disclosure – Settle”]
Before 2013, electronic music was a rare find in my iTunes. This year, however, has been rather kind to the deteriorating genre (although I can’t say the same about EDM culture) with explosive releases from Daft Punk, James Blake, Pretty Lights, and my favorite of the year, Disclosure. Made up of two UK bloaks who just happen to be brothers, Disclosure debuted their first album Settle in June 2013 and needless to say, I have not stopped listening since. If you are not listening yet, you are doing yourself a disservice; that’s how strongly I feel about Disclosure.
Suggested Tracks: “Latch,” “Help Me Lose My Mind,” “Boiling,” & “What’s In Your Head”

WLOY Picks Ten Christmas Classics
Friday, December 6th, 2013 by The Professor
Well, maybe we picked 11, because we play music and can’t count. Ok, give us a break. We polled a few current and former staff members to see what they can’t live without at Christmas time. You know, the music that makes them enjoy the season, not want to shove pencils in their ears if they have to hear it one more time (Elmo & Patsy, we’re looking at you). And because we care about you, our listeners, we even threw in an iTunes link so you can add them to your own playlists at home (you’re welcome). Here they are in no particular order, along with a reminder to get into the spirit of the season and share your gifts with others : (more…)

Staff Picks: Dries’ Best Albums of 2013
Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013 by WLOY Staff
Blood Orange – Cupid Deluxe – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/youre-not-good-enough/id716767448?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]
With his sophomore release, Blood Orange delivered an absolute masterpiece. The R&B meets disco groove of the album immediately captured me and drew me in. From the first track, “Chamkay”, to the closing, “Time Will Tell”, the album keeps the listener guessing, weaving in and out of multiple genres it gets almost anybody on their feet and dancing.

What Are We Listening To This Week?
Thursday, November 21st, 2013 by WLOY Staff
Kelly Burchard – The Neighbourhood – I Love You
[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/sweater-weather/id635016635?uo=4″ title=”The Neighborhood – I Love You”]
While their album came out earlier this year, The Neighbourbood’s I Love You is just now making its way into my Top 25 Most Played iTunes playlist. Their motley crew of electric, hip-hop and indie rock sound is something that is hard not to like. All the tracks on I Love You flow into each other so smoothly, and while this isn’t necessarily the album that makes you want to get up and dance, it is definitely worth a listen to, if you haven’t already.

Staff Picks 11.3.2013
Thursday, November 7th, 2013 by WLOY Staff
Billy Dries– Night Time, My Time – Sky Ferreira
[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/youre-not-the-one/id728951009?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]
Sky has been on the public radar for years now, she’s allegedly hooked up with Miley Cyrus, and got busted for drugs, and shed a pop star that didn’t start on Disney Channel!…Whats this? Billy’s pick is a pop album?… Freak yeah it is, this album rocks it out and delivers a sound the likes of which hasn’t been heard in a Pop album since the likes of Michael Jackson, or Madonna.
