Concert Review: Thunderpussy at Metro Gallery

A live concert photo of Whitney and Molly from Thunderpussy. Whitney leans on Molly and plays guitar and Molly sings into a vintage looking mic.

If there was just one word that I had to choose to describe Thunderpussy, it would be captivating.

I had the chance to see Thunderpussy on Sunday, August 11th, at Metro Gallery here in good ole’ Baltimore. It was the Seattle based band’s first show in Baltimore. The show was opened by Baltimore’s own, Thunder Club. Thunder Club was very quick to acknowledge that there was no relation between them and Thunderpussy, but instead, was just a happy accident. Thunder Club opened the show with an incredible set of indie rock that was energetic, fun and incredibly good. I’m a little ashamed to admit that I hadn’t heard of Thunder Club before that since they are from the area, but will be sure to listen to now. Isn’t that what live music is for?! Their new EP, Summer Vice, is the perfect album for summer days, and I’m sure will stay in my rotation for a while.

Young The Giant at Rams Head Live!

Friday, February 28th, 2014 by WLOY Staff

photo 4On February 25th, in the year 2014, year of the horse, I had the pleasure of seeing Young the Giant. The Northern California band, Cayucas, opened for them, and they were pretty groovy. When Young the Giant and front man Sameer Gadhia took the stage, all bets were off at their sold out show. They opened with “Anagram,” their first full length track on their sophomore album, Mind Over Mind. They played a good combination of songs off both Mind Over Matter and Young The Giant which gave the crowd room to sing and dance along. If you’ve never been to a YTG concert and been able to experience Sameer on stage first hand, you’re truly missing a valuable life experience. He is electric on stage and so much fun to watch. You can see how much he enjoys their music, the way he bops around stage and engages the crowd. At one point, Sameer took the fedora of an audience member and danced around stage wearing it, followed by a performance with a cowbell. They also had an amazing light show happening synced with every song. After their “exit” from stage, the crowd burst into a “one more song” chant until they returned to the stage to play a few more. They ended their 3 song encore with their classic from their first album, “My Body.” It was the perfect song to end the night with, as the entire crowd sang along in musical harmony. If you have the chance to see them in the future, do not pass it up!
