More accents and boybands!! Woohoo! This pop rock band, 5 Seconds of Summer, comprised of four adorable Aussies is pretty new to the scene and as well as millions of other girls all around the world, I’m obsessed. 5 Seconds of Summer began in December 2011 when Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood joined together and started posting videos of themselves performing covers of popular songs to YouTube. A little bit later they were joined by drummer Ashton Irwin, and the current 5 Seconds of Summer lineup came to be. Last February, 5 Seconds of Summer announced that they’d be the opening act on One Direction’s worldwide arena tour and hysteria among all teenage girls immediately ensued. The boys are now currently signed to Capitol Records and are working on their debut album. Their new single, She Looks So Perfect, has just made me even more addicted and it’s starting to become unhealthy and kind of scaring me.

Screeching Weasel is one of my favorite punk bands. I discovered them off an accidental limewire (remember that?!) download my freshman year of high school, and I’ve been listening to them ever since. Honestly, “Cool Kids” is a bit mean spirited, but it’s one of those songs that makes you feel better about yourself when you blast it at 2 a.m. in the taco bell drive through…because who’s cool now?!

This up-and-coming Baltimore band draws influences from various genres including rock, pop and folk. This lends a unique sound to their album, Swords. Each track is filled with emotional lyrics that are highlighted by superb instrumentals.

beck-morning-phase-coverKelly Burchard – Beck – Morning Phase – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/blue-moon/id797897966?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]
I been waiting for this album since forever and its finally here! Its like a grown-up version of his previous Sea Change but at the same time has a different feel to it. Morning Song is one big hypnotic dream of music that seamlessly works together. Its get better and better with each listen and has been perfect music for my mid-term studying.  The entire album just radiates you with warmth which sounds strange but just take a listen and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

If you like folk rock, a female vocalist, and a 90s indie rock influence then here’s a band for you. This is a great debut album, it’s definitely worth a listen.
