Review: Volcano Choir – Repave

Volcano Choir
Repave

Grade: A
The organ drone that kicks off Repave, the sophomore album from Eau Claire based band Volcano Choir, immediately captures the listener and sets them on this epic journey of an album. Justin Vernon and friends have been hard at work since [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/bon-iver/id273428126?uo=4″ title=”Bon Iver” text=”Bon Iver “]hung up their instruments at the end of 2012. Vernon already released one album with his band [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/the-shouting-matches/id610046049?uo=4″ title=”The shouting matches” text=”The Shouting Matches”] this year, and while that was a foot stomping and jug blowing good time, Repave and Volcano Choir pick up where Bon Iver left off. Just as the lead single, “Byegone”, had alluded to over the summer, each song grows in complexity from beginning to end, resulting in an album of rich folk anthems. (more…)

October 15, 2013, The Head and The Heart released their sophomore album, Let’s Be Still. The album is comforting and soothing with the influence of meaningful lyrics. For those who are new listeners to the band, it has a mix of folk, indie and country, reminiscent of Mumford and Sons and Passenger. You can tell that every song is carefully thought out; though many songs are very simple, when it boils down to it, this is what makes the band truly genius. They show you that a band does not need the complexities of instruments and voices to not only make a great song, but a great album. (more…)

We had 4 pairs of tickets to Opening Night of the US premiere of WE WILL ROCK YOU at the Hippodrome. We gave you 3 weeks to enter the raffle, and then we picked the winners. Here they are, look upon them with much jealousy 🙂

You can still buy tickets to the show, if you hurry! It’s a short run and going to sell out! It’s going to be an incredible show – members of our staff saw it in London and loved it! Besides, it’s all Queen songs so it has to be good.

On September 27, 2013, sisters Danielle, Este and Alana of Haim released their debut album, Days are Gone. The album has a very elective sound, with it ranging from classic hip hop beats to funky guitar riffs. This is represented in songs like, “My Song 5” and “Running If you call my name.” Without fail, the sisters continue to portray their classic sound with synthesizers, dope drum beats and their hypnotizing melodic voices. The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2
Wednesday, September 25th, 2013 by WLOY Staff
It seems like 2013 has been the year of Justin Timberlake. With The 20/20 Experience hitting the top of every music chart ever created, The Legends of Summer Tour with Jay-Z selling out arenas across the country, and let’s not forget that killer VMA performance,
JT is unstoppable. But, just when you thought that was enough, he has released the highly anticipated 20/20 Experience 2 of 2. This album is very reminiscent of his NSYNC days. His “pop” foundation shines through in every song; including the slower ones like Amnesia. The heavy background vocals also contributes to the boy-band sound on this album. In true JT fashion, the album has only 11 tracks with only one song less than four minutes long. The last track “Not a Bad Thing” is 11 minutes and 28 seconds long. Justin Timberlake’s voice is just as smooth and incredible on this album as on any other album he has created in the past. The newlywed seems to still be using his marriage to actress Jessica Biel as inspiration with the love songs on this album. JT is, however, getting in touch with his inner bad boy with the language on this album. There are more expletives on this album than fans are used to hearing from America’s Prince of Pop. After listening to this album, there is no doubt that JT is hotter than ever! Tune in to A Double Dose of Entertainment on Fridays from 7-9pm to hear tracks from this album!
