WLOY Coffee House Presents: Blind Man Leading

February 24th, 2014 by WLOY Staff

blindmanWho’s that guy at the WLOY open mic nights? You know, the dude who always comes singin’ songs about Greek mythology and absolutely kills it. Well, that’s our friend Dave, and this Thursday at WLOY’s Coffee House he will be accompanied by his posse of sound sculptors. Indigenous to our very own Baltimore, Blind Man Leading brings you a bodacious blend of rock-pop placed within the subtleties of jazz rhythm. If you’ve never heard of Blind Man Leading, relinquish your deafness and check out their newly released EP “SWORDS” or a some of their live performances.  After you’re awed (which you most definitely will be) come by the 3rd Floor Reading Room, this Thursday night, 9pm.

Yeezus in the Charm City

February 21st, 2014 by WLOY Staff

Yeezus
Written by: Jeremy Stephenson

With his first solo tour in five years, you know Mr. West rolled his sleeves up to make his Baltimore fans remember why he is the icon he is today. First of all, this concert and tour is nothing like any other rap tour or any tour for that matter to date. A tremendous 35 song set list including tracks from his latest, and sixth album, Yeezus, and even his inaugural decade old album, The College Dropout definitely had any Ye fan walking away with a nice “did I just see that!?” grin after the show.

The show kicked off with the unveiling of a massive mountain in the back of the stage, which followed with Kanye’s twelve dancers who were dressed in fully nude pantyhose, and were incorporated throughout the show’s entirety. Kanye then dramatically weaved his way through his girls and started with the first song off his Yeezus album, “On Sight.” Read the rest of this entry »

What Are We Listening To This Week?

February 20th, 2014 by WLOY Staff

maxresdefaultRachel Stoczko – Hey OceanIf I Were A Ship – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/if-i-were-a-ship/id584597270?i=584597285&uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]

This super fun song, that’s a single track off their 2013 album IS, is the epitome of Hey Ocean!. The Vancouver based band is fun loving and they provide feel good music that just makes you want to dance. In January they released an animated video to accompany “If I Were A Ship” and it’s basically the most adorable an animated music video can get. Give them a listen, dance along and fall in love, like I have.

God’s Ark of Safety Church in Maryland has given us one of the most interesting religious attractions in the country. The church is constructing a rebuilding of Noah’s Ark. Supposedly this is inspired by a dream that the church’s pastor had and is a huge 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet tall structure.
