When Kat and I sat down with Adam of Red Sammy and Howard of Palookaville, we had the chance to get an insiders take on their music as well as learning about their combined show at An Die Musik. The Baltimore LED Art Billboard

It began as a vision for Will Shanklin 8 years ago. At Artscape 2014 it was officially unveiled. This amazing structure is providing a much needed relief from the usual billboards crowding our streets and is creating visibility for a huge collection of artists in the region FOR FREE. Will Shanklin, the artist and visionary behind the billboard’s development and operation sat down for a chat with me right before the official launch of the billboard at Artscape 2014. One of the many unexpectedly unforgettable free concerts of the Rochester International Jazz Festival
To some, standing shoulder to shoulder in a rambunctious crowd of Rochesterians on an 85-degree night might seem unpleasant, but as I scanned the crowd, I couldn’t find a single soul that wasn’t enjoying the concert. Mingo Fishtrap was kicking off the third night of the Rochester International Jazz Festival in an unforgettable manner. It was hard to imagine cars ever driving on Gibbs Street because the music lovers had claimed the road as their own. Strangers quickly became dancing partners and friends as Mingo Fishtrap’s soulful funky sound assertively boogied its way through the crowd. Read the rest of this entry »

4th of July with Moldie Oldies!

Our annual tradition continues!
Join Nick Centanni on WLOY 10-12PM and 6-8PM for 2 separate beachfront broadcasts of the Moldy Oldie Show this July 4!
Nick will have a mix of upbeat summer songs, Independence Day facts, jokes, and of course periodic visits from campus royalty via the ‘gold campus royalty phone.’
He will be up to his usual tricks so you won’t know what to expect next. There will also be a special Independence Day wishes from some familiar voices in the 6-8PM hours.
This is high octane radio so make it a date and don’t be late! The fun begins July 4 at 10AM all right here on WLOY!

It’s all over but the editing… WLOY hosted 15 amazing musical acts over 2 days on the first-ever WLOY STAGE at Honfest this year! We had a blast, made a ton of friends, introduced a lot of people to new artists and generally enjoyed the hell out of the weekend. The weather might well have been the best at any Honfest ever, save for a teensy bit of wind which made us attach the stage to an i-beam, and the crowds were great. We had a lot of staff show up to help run the tents, despite it being summer and them living far away. Alumni fairly came out of the woodwork all weekend long, stopping by to say hi, help man the tent and run the stage and even a couple of performers. 
Kat and I got to sit down with Feed the Scene creator, Rachel Taft. The things she provides for the Baltimore music scene and the greater music scene as a whole are pretty incredible. Check out our interview to learn a bit more about her and the amazing Feed The Scene project.
