This newly released EP from Irish artist, Hozier, has been on repeat since I discovered it last week. I first heard Hozier on Teen Wolf, judge me, with his work from his first EP, and his second certainly does not disappoint. I cannot stop listening to the hauntingly beautiful tones and intricate lyrics of all four songs off the new EP. Give it a listen and melo out.

Top 20 Tracks 4.20.14

This week we have the highly anticipated “Girl” topping our chart. The xx producer/percussionist released his fourth solo single earlier this week, and it’s thumping bass and reverb vocal makes dancing to this track almost irresistible. Also on our chart is another cut off of Mac DeMarco’s Salad Days, as well as tUnE-yArDs’ “Water Fountain” which received an extremely psychedelic music video this week (check it out here). The husband and wife duo, “Thus Owls” recently released their album Turning Rocks. Though Thus Owls consist of other people in the band, it is mostly centered around Erika and Simon Angell. Turning Rocks relies on heavy drum beats, synths and distortion in an effort to make you feel like you are traveling to another world. (more…)

Matt Koelsch & The Allies’s sophomore album Epic Summer is just delightful. Each song on the album has an attitude of its own, clearly portraying the amazing writing skills of Matt Koelsch. Deleted Scene’s new album, set to release April 15 definitely captures the essence of their music-art rock. Melodic rhythms, infused with some math rock, helps set this band apart from others. This album definitely demonstrates are much this band has grown, how mature they are and how knowledge/talented they are on their instruments. California rocker, Night Riots self-funded this amazing EP. Young Lore is just 6 songs of absolute fun-it combines, harmonic vocals, solid drumming and simple yet amazing guitar riffs. The saying, “simple is better” really defines these indie rocker, though each song is clearly thought out, none of the songs are over produced instrumental wise. (more…)

Originally apart of the English rock band, “Doves” Jimi Goodwin’s solo album Odludek falls very short. Odludek is unable to seamlessly blend it’s many different sounds together, with one song being very rock, another being very folk-almost sounding like english rock counterparts, “Mumford & Sons.” This album also, seems to be lacking in quality musically-the vocals lack emotion, while musically everything seems to be all over the place sometimes leaving listeners wondering where one song ends and the next begins.
