WLOY was took the trophy in categories: Best Community Involvement for Word on the Street and Best Feature for our original production What Happens Next. Sky has been on the public radar for years now, she’s allegedly hooked up with Miley Cyrus, and got busted for drugs, and shed a pop star that didn’t start on Disney Channel!…Whats this? Billy’s pick is a pop album?… Freak yeah it is, this album rocks it out and delivers a sound the likes of which hasn’t been heard in a Pop album since the likes of Michael Jackson, or Madonna.

Grade: B+
Harvest Record’s recording artist, released their 4 track self titled EP, “Glass Animals.” The album has a haunting/spacey sound. The indie pop band makes use of synthesizers and artificial sounds to bring each songs to life. Dave Barley’s voice definitely keeps the listener captured and wanting to listen more and more. The album is very innovative and captures the essence of who Glass Animals are and is a great indicator of what’s to come from them in the future.

WLOY Cleans Up San Antonio

When we got to the National Student Electronic Media Convention in San Antonio, they had all these trophies lying around messing up the place. It seemed a shame to mess up a nice looking city like San Antonio, and since we care about that kind of stuff, we helped make it nice and neat. Taking the trophies back to Baltimore seemed the best plan.

The Lonely Forest, an indie rock band from Anacortes, Washington releases their fourth studio album, Adding up the Wasted Hours on October 15, 2013. The album is a mix of indie rock and the influence of synthesizers to give it a unique sound. The introduction of synthesizers really enhances the sound of each and every song. The Lonely Forest though does not stray to far from from its indie roots. Adding up the Wasted Hours is similar to music from the Bombay Bicycle Club and Vampire Weekend. Every song on the album is a new journey that the listener is taken on. (more…)

Beach Fossils and Kurt Vile at Ottobar

On Sunday, October 27th my travels took me to a local favorite, The Ottobar. The grungy little bar featuring a tiny stage, and an equally small dance floor to match is one of the best venues in the city to see live music, and on Sunday, Beach Fossils and Kurt Vile shared the stage.

The rock band, Linkin Park released its second remix album, Recharged, on October 29, 2013. The album fell short from the band’s usual numetal sound. It was manufactured, and not as organic as the band’s usual sound. The remix album sounds very dubstep, which usually would be a great thing to add to a rock sound. (more…)
