What Is The WLOY Staff Listening To?

Kate Marshall – Soko – “We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow” – I Thought I Was An Alien
I was watching this really endearing video of 20 strangers that were paired up to kiss for the first time (trust me, you don’t get second hand embarrassment that you assume would come with watching that…check it out here) and about 30 seconds in, this hauntingly beautiful song chimes in with the line “if you’re not ready for love, how can you be ready for life” and I was instantly hooked to this french singer/songwriter. Paired with the video, the videographer and artist created such a charming and intimate moment I wasn’t really expecting at all.

Young The Giant at Rams Head Live!
Friday, February 28th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
On February 25th, in the year 2014, year of the horse, I had the pleasure of seeing Young the Giant. The Northern California band, Cayucas, opened for them, and they were pretty groovy. When Young the Giant and front man Sameer Gadhia took the stage, all bets were off at their sold out show. They opened with “Anagram,” their first full length track on their sophomore album, Mind Over Mind. They played a good combination of songs off both Mind Over Matter and Young The Giant which gave the crowd room to sing and dance along. If you’ve never been to a YTG concert and been able to experience Sameer on stage first hand, you’re truly missing a valuable life experience. He is electric on stage and so much fun to watch. You can see how much he enjoys their music, the way he bops around stage and engages the crowd. At one point, Sameer took the fedora of an audience member and danced around stage wearing it, followed by a performance with a cowbell. They also had an amazing light show happening synced with every song. After their “exit” from stage, the crowd burst into a “one more song” chant until they returned to the stage to play a few more. They ended their 3 song encore with their classic from their first album, “My Body.” It was the perfect song to end the night with, as the entire crowd sang along in musical harmony. If you have the chance to see them in the future, do not pass it up!

Also be sure to check out “A Simple Beautiful Truth” by Wild Beats and the Worth EP by Mas Ysa, they’re some great new tunes by up and coming artists. Check back in two weeks for an updated Top 20. Yeezus in the Charm City
Friday, February 21st, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Written by: Jeremy Stephenson
With his first solo tour in five years, you know Mr. West rolled his sleeves up to make his Baltimore fans remember why he is the icon he is today. First of all, this concert and tour is nothing like any other rap tour or any tour for that matter to date. A tremendous 35 song set list including tracks from his latest, and sixth album, Yeezus, and even his inaugural decade old album, The College Dropout definitely had any Ye fan walking away with a nice “did I just see that!?” grin after the show.
The show kicked off with the unveiling of a massive mountain in the back of the stage, which followed with Kanye’s twelve dancers who were dressed in fully nude pantyhose, and were incorporated throughout the show’s entirety. Kanye then dramatically weaved his way through his girls and started with the first song off his Yeezus album, “On Sight.” (more…)

What Are We Listening To This Week?
Thursday, February 20th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Rachel Stoczko – Hey Ocean – If I Were A Ship – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/if-i-were-a-ship/id584597270?i=584597285&uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]
This super fun song, that’s a single track off their 2013 album IS, is the epitome of Hey Ocean!. The Vancouver based band is fun loving and they provide feel good music that just makes you want to dance. In January they released an animated video to accompany “If I Were A Ship” and it’s basically the most adorable an animated music video can get. Give them a listen, dance along and fall in love, like I have.

Top 20 Tracks Of The Week
Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
This week we still have Mac DeMarco topping our chart, but there are a few new additions. A new song by Austin, Texas band Pure X is so dreamy and surfy that you’d never believe that those kids grew up hundreds of miles from the closest beach. Also on our chart is a huge pop track from ceo, and a new track by WOODS. Check back every week for even more great new tracks.
