Food Fridays: Baltimore Farmer’s Market and Bazaar

July 26th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

Baltimore_Farmers_MarketEvery Sunday until December 22nd from 7AM – Noon

Beneath the Jones Falls Expressway at Holliday and Saratoga Streets

Being that I’m from a relatively rural area, I love farm fresh produce. I believe a fresh tomato or ear of corn tastes better coming right from the farm instead of a supermarket shelf. A few weeks ago I introduced you all to the Govanstowne Farmers Market which operates Wednesday afternoons. However, there are so many other great markets so you can eat farm to table, every day! Every Sunday until December 22nd from 7AM to Noon, you can visit the Baltimore Farmer’s Market and Bazaar. This weekly gathering is held under the Jones Fall Expressway and has tons of local food and goods vendors. Plus, new this year, the Baltimore Farmer’s Market is featuring vendors who practice urban farming. Visitors can shop all their produce and grocery needs with vendors who sell everything from avocados to eggs and bananas to beef. Plus, the market features vendors that sell jewelry, art, and other crafts. And, weekly there are food concessions too so if you get hungry while you’re shopping, you can get yourself a little snack. The market accepts SNAP and Debit, too!

For more information, and to sign up for the market’s newsletter, check out the market’s website.

If Cinema al Fresco or Flicks From the Hill don’t work for you, or you just want to add another film festival to your weekly to-do, then be sure to check out Films on the Pier. This event runs every Wednesday through August 28th at 8:45PM and will feature some of the best films of 2012. The event is totally free and will feature some really awesome films. For the next event, on July 31st, Flight, starring Denzel Washington, will be playing. Other films include 21 Jump Street, The Avengers, and Pitch Perfect. Sports Saturdays: Stoneleigh Lanes

July 20th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

stoneleigh_lanesHours Vary

6703 York Road

Well, I seem to be running out of sports events in Baltimore, shocking right, so this week I figured I’d highlight a cool hangout for everyone to check out. Stoneleigh lanes is located on York Rd. between Towson Univerity and Northern Parkway and is not your typical bowling spot. No, Stoneleigh lanes is actually a 16 lane Duckpin Bowling Alley. Now, duckpin bowling may seem daunting at first. I mean, how do you hold the bowling ball? Do you throw it like a baseball? Actually, duckpin bowling isn’t all that different from normal bowling and from my experience is a lot of fun. Stoneleigh Lanes also has specials nearly every day. For example, with a College ID, students can bowl at a discounted price on Tuesdays. On Fridays, there’s live karaoke too! Looking for a cool weekend or night hangout? Then grab your friends and your bowling shoes and head down to Stoneleigh Lanes.

For more information, visit Stoneleigh Lanes website.
