Plus they’re twins and super adorable and fun to watch. Loyola alum, Maria Dontas, impresses with this original song. The lyrics are whimsical and incredibly relatable. Coupled with superb instrumentals, the song is an instant classic.

This week, I’m throwing it back to a lovely little song I’ve been car jamming to since the ripe age of 4 years old. When did my fantastic taste in music begin? I’d like to believe it begin this nostalgia-packed 90s tune. Warms my heart with thoughts of old school nickelodeon, neon scrunchies, and the sweet sound of noise makers on the spokes of my bright pink bike through Flushing Meadows Park. Ah, the 90s.

Billy Dries – Mac DeMarco – Salad Days – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/passing-out-pieces/id799685692?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]

So you’re just sittin’ there right? And boooooom queue up the DeMarco, man. VICEROYYYYYY, you know? Bow wow ow wow, I shred on my axe all the time, bro.

Just in case you were under the impression, as I (regrettably) was , that you could outgrow punk, Dylan Baldi reminds us it is not that kind of thing. 32 minutes of forward-leaning punk, Here and Nowhere Else, is catchy even when Baldi screams things like, “I can feel your pain/ and I feel alright about it”.  This is the irresistably anthemic quality of Cloud Nothings. It’s just so good, I can’t help myself. So I won’t, errrrrrriiiigggghhhttt?

Bikini Bottom: Here and Nowhere Else is the resolution to a crisis I didn’t even know I had.

Review: Wise Up:Thought (Remixes & Reworks)-Elvis Costello and The Roots

March 31st, 2014 by WLOY Staff

news_444-1374499787Wise Up: Thoughts (Remixes & Reworks)

Elvis Costello and The Roots

[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/cinco-minutos-con-vos-feat./id773524136?uo=4″ title=”Wise up”]

Grade: B+

This album, definitely takes you on a journey of musical exploration. The title track, “Cinco Minutos Con Von” is a fusion of Latin jazz and and rap. The journey continues into a 50s inspired ballad, represented in the song, “The Puppet has cut his strings.” This 7 song album, definitely is a great listen for those who are fans of Elvis and The Roots, but also for new fans of the music. Wise up: Thoughts, is a great diverge from the general pop music scene out there. For those looking for a refreshing, innovative music, definitely give this album a listen!

Museum Mondays: Irish Railroad Workers

March 31st, 2014 by WLOY Staff

irish-shrine-and-railroad-workers-museumWhat: Irish Railroad Workers Museum

Where: Pratt Street

The Great Famine cause a huge influx of Irish immigrants in the mid 1800’s. Many settled right here in Baltimore and went to work in the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. The Irish Railroad Workers Museum consists of two renovated alley houses in 900 block of Lemmon Street. The houses on Lemmon Street were built in 1848 to provide homes for the growing number of workers needed by America’s first railroad. One of the houses is furnished as a period-house museum, reflecting the lives of the Irish-immigrant family who lived there in the 1860s. The other house offers changing exhibits relating to Irish-American history and local neighborhood life.
