A lot of people ask how they can listen to WLOY with the least clicks. Downloading a mobile app is by far the easiest one and our new RadioFX app is the best solution going. AS OF 2022 RADIOFLAG HAS CEASED OPERATION
TUNEIN Radio for iOS users or for Android users

Earth People! The Triumphant Return of Dr. Octagon
Monday, June 26th, 2017 by The Professor
by Earl Crown, host of Crucial Cuts on WLOY
On June 4th 2017, Kool Keith (aka Dr. Octagon) came to Baltimore Soundstage with his hip-hop super-group, and reminded us why we loved Dr. Octagon in the first place. His 1996 album, [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/1977/id310121423?i=310121516&uo=4″ title=”Dr. Octagonecologyst” text=”Dr. Octagonecologyst”], is considered by many to be among the most important albums of that decade and a must-own LP for any serious fan of the genre. With the help of producer and DJ Dan “The Automator” Nakamura, as well as world-class turntablist DJ Qbert, Octagon was able recreate the genius of his groundbreaking 1996 album on stage.
The Dr. Octagon tour features an all-star stage band, with a live drummer and bass player, along with two DJs, the aforementioned Dan the Automator and DJ Qbert. The set list for the Baltimore Soundstage show included many tracks from the Dr. Octagonecologyst album, including “[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/3000/id310121423?i=310121435&uo=4″ title=”3000″ text=”3000″]”, “[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/earth-people/id310121423?i=310121448&uo=4″ title=”Earth People” text=”Earth People”]” and “[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/bear-witness/id310121423?i=310121476&uo=4″ title=”Bear Witness” text=”Bear Witness”]”. The appreciative crowd got especially wild for “[itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/blue-flowers/id310121423?i=310121467&uo=4″ title=”Blue Flowers” text=”Blue Flowers”],” a fan-favorite from the 1996 release. Karoondinha (Now Deep Roots) Giveaway!
Monday, June 19th, 2017 by The Professor
As many of you have heard the Karoondinha Music and Arts Festival has been cancelled. We are sorry for any of you who were disappointed by this news, and we would never want to let down our listeners. Lucky for us, the Deep Roots Mountain Revival Festival has been generous enough to give us two three-day passes, and camping to one lucky WLOY listener–as well as, honoring those who already purchased passes to Karoondinha with passes to their festival.
The festival will be July 20th to the 22nd (conveniently the same as Karoondinha), and is located at Marvin’s Mountaintop in Masontown, West Virginia. Deep Roots Mountain Revival will have an Americana, Bluegrass, Rock and Jam feel to it– featuring bands such as Dr. Dog, Brandi Carlile, Lettuce, JJ Grey & Mofro, Moon Taxi, and many more. Like Karoondinha, Deep Roots wants to encourage festival-goers to relax and connect not only to the music, but nature and themselves. They will be offering activities such as meditation, yoga, sound-healing, and more. Enter with the link below for a chance to win.
* Standard WLOY contest rules apply. Entry closes at 11:59pm Eastern Time, July 7th, 2017. One entry per email address. Duplicate entries will be discarded. Drawing will be done and the winner contacted on July 8, 2017. Watch for a video of the drawing to be posted.

Pretty Don amazing: Don Broco Live
Thursday, May 11th, 2017 by WLOY Staff
The British rock band, [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/don-broco/id307317604?uo=4″ title=”Don Broco” text=”Don Broco”], has been around since 2008, but have just embarked on their first US tour. Aside from having the pleasure of interviewing the band, I had the opportunity of seeing them live at Baltimore Soundstage.
Anyone who knows Baltimore, knows that the music fans of the city are very hard to please, especially the pop punk scene, who have seen acts like Modern Baseball, All Time Low and many more jump off to headlining acts at major festivals and their own tours. And to be honest, Don Broco is definitely the odd ball out when looking at the bill. They are lined up with bands like: With Confidence, Against the Current and State Champs. Fortunately, there were a few fans there, but Don Broco definitely had a challenge ahead of them. (more…)

WLOY Coffeehouse: Black Rhinoceros
Monday, April 24th, 2017 by WLOY Staff
WLOY’s last event of the semester is here and we’re not sure how we feel about it. Of course we saved the best for last, but saying goodbye all our Thursday night fun is tragic. No matter how you’re feeling about the end of the semester though, Black Rhinoceros and openers, Divided Heaven are sure pick you up. Black Rhinocerous, an acoustic pop duo will be playing their relaxing, chill tunes on guitar and cello, which is the perfect music to cram to finals to. As self-proclaimed nerd rock, Black Rhinoceros will be sure to appreciate you studying to their music.
By combining Erin’s cello and vocal skills with Ahren’s guitar and vocal, Black Rhinoceros create complex melodies, harmonies and chord progressions in order to make some beautiful songs that you’ll want to listen to forever. Check out what is mean with their song, Gaius, which you can listen to here. Don’t miss it live though! This Thursday. Outside Starbucks. 8-10pm.

WLOY Open Mic Night 4/20
Tuesday, April 18th, 2017 by WLOY Staff
Don’t miss your last chance to show you skills off to Loyola! This Thursday WLOY will be having our last open mic night of the semester outside Starbucks from 8-10pm. Bring your instrument and your friends to perform your favorite songs, or maybe even your own music. Not musically inclined? Don’t fear! You can still come support your fellow Loyola musicians, perform some stand up for comic relief, or read some poetry to mellow out the mood. So pick your poison, no matter what talent it is, but don’t miss the last open mic night because that’s one poison you won’t back from!

Sweet Leda Studio Seizure 4/17/17
Monday, April 17th, 2017 by The Professor
This week as a special Easter treat, we get not one, but TWO hours of chatting and spinning time with Jaime and Julie from Sweet Leda. The Professor chatted with the pair (bass & vocals) about what’s in the water in Pasadena, who they love, and just what kind of horror film they scored. They brought some of their (and our) favorite local albums, and talked about the process of recording their own latest piece of vinyl Let It In.
Studio Seizures run every Monday 7-8pm, except this week it’s 7-9pm with 2 special hours of Sweet Leda!
