Voices of COVID-19 Student Project

Saturday, May 2nd, 2020 by The Professor

Students in Professor Glick’s Radio Storytelling class started this semester with the plan to create a series of pieces focusing on different voices of Loyola and then a series of community voices. Then… things changed…a lot. When faced with the rapid changes and working from home, Professor Glick reoriented the class to tell their stories from where they were. So while we still have voices of Loyola, they are now voices from around the country and community. Listen in as the students report on healthcare providers, businesses, shopping, graduation and much more. Huge kudos to the students and Professor Glick from turning chaos into a fantastic set of voices and reports from around the country.

Vinylthon 2020 – Day 1

Saturday, April 18th, 2020 by The Professor

It’s VINYLTHON 2020! Originally scheduled for today April 18, but rescheduled (along with Record Store Day) to June 20 but WE DON’T CARE! We are doing TWO days of Vinylthon instead of one. It’s just how we roll… Tune in all day for shows that are 100% spun from vinyl starting at 1am today and running through midnight! You’ll hear current DJ shows as well as alumni shows in one and two hour formats. WLOY has received a golden slipmat every year for doing at least 12 hours of all vinyl and this year even though we’re not making the usual full 24 we’re still running 18 hours of all vinyl shows!

What is Vinylthon you ask? Read the press release below and find out more!

Over 100 radio stations will go vinyl-only for charity event Vinylthon 2020, with many stations broadcasting from their DJ’s homes

Despite severe disruptions caused by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, across the USA and the world, radio stations will celebrate the unique format of vinyl by going vinyl-only on Vinylthon, April 18, 2020. Organizers hope it will provide essential comfort to listeners through entertainment during this difficult time.

COVID-19, WLOY DJs and What Happens Next?

Monday, April 6th, 2020 by The Professor

Loyola has closed their campus to keep students and staff safe, but WLOY remains on the air 24/7/365 with new music and great classics. Stay tuned because we have a big announcement about our award-winng What Happens Next? show for kids coming soon! In the meanwhile do not despair as not only are we keeping WLOY on the air through all the closures, but our amazing DJs are doing shows from home to send in, and so are a ton of local musicians. We even have DJ Retro Eddie making shows in the station still as he’s one of the last people still on campus. Keep listening for new shows every day from Junior, Earl Crown, Tara, Retro Eddie, and many more! And get ready for a really cool new version of What Happens Next? you can do from home! Stay safe, social distance, wash your hands, and tune in to WLOY!

Special Notice – Event Cancellations

Thursday, March 12th, 2020 by The Professor

We are very sorry to report that as the campus needs to close to keep everyone safe, so too must WLOY cancel the remainder of it’s spring music events. This is especially hard on us as we love celebrating all of the amazing campus-connected talent with current and past students at Battle of the Bands and the Songwriter Skirmish. But, as there will be no Loyolapalooza this year, there can be no Battle of the Bands winner to perform, or Songwriter Skirmish winners to open. We regret greatly that these events have to be cancelled but the safety of our campus and students has to take priority in this time. Please everyone stay safe, and we will see you again soon. Look for rescheduling of events and artists for the fall semester as soon as we are able. We hope to have the timing work to bring Hadley Kennary back as well, but in the meanwhile you can see what you missed by checking out her website!
