Dead Air Halloween 2020
Friday, September 18th, 2020 by The Professor
It’s that time of year again and as a lead up to the 2020 Halloween edition of Dead Air Radio, we present all the past episodes on Saturdays and Sundays at midnight! Join DJ, author and artist Terence Hannum (of the amazing Holy Circle band BTW) as he explores the depth and breadth of the horror movie soundtrack. Don’t expect a bunch of 1970s vintage spooky sounds, or a bunch of clinking chains and screams, it’s so much more. You never know what famous bands have contributed or how ambient things can be until you listen to these shows. From John Carpenter, (Baltimore-born)Philip Glass and Goblin to local greats Sweet Leda, you never know who’s behind that sound. Check out Dead Air at midnight every Saturday and every Sunday for the next 6 weeks and the new 2020 episode on Halloween!

Quarantine Takeover – Franklin Gotham edition
Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 by The Professor
This week’s Quarantine Takeover features the members of Viginia’s Franklin Gotham. It’s a bit of a wild ride, and we hope you can get a firm grip and hang on. They reach back to their pre-FG bands and history, throw in some road stories, a teeny bit of innuendo, and some great music. Did you know their members had played in Icewagon Flu (find them on Myspace) and Virginia Coalition (who played at Loyola in 2008)?
Franklin Gotham brings upbeat-melancholia pop back on the indie scene. Described as Wilco meets the Squeeze, listeners will also hear hints of Old 97s, REM and Death Cab for Cutie. They deliver honest & heartfelt compositions entwined with warm rhythms and almost southern-rock vocals. Introspective and reflective lyrics paired with acoustic guitar paint rich visuals for listeners. Simply explained: Catchy acoustic pop with heart-felt, booze-soaked lyrics. Franklin Gotham is the creative pairing of Kevin Adkins (Icewagon Flu) and Jarrett Nicolay (Virginia Coalition, Astra Via) and Christopher Speich (Nashville Sessions). The team offers both modern and rustic sounds through acoustic guitar rhythms, thoughtful lyrics and modern percussion.

They had a website too but… we’ll let them explain in the show.

New Show! Hip Hop Revisited with Saleem
Friday, August 7th, 2020 by The Professor
Saturday 3-4pm August 8
2-4pm every Saturday following!
Come explore the history and world of Hip-Hop every week with local artist Saleem!
I could introduce him to you as Saleem the emcee, or I could introduce you to him as Saleem the producer. However I think the most apropos title would be Saleem, the dopest emcee on production! Starting out with an ASRX-PRO and a microphone, Saleem has been blazing his trail through hip-hop’s indie scene for several years. Performing with luminaries such as Common, The Roots, KRS-One, Rakim, and The Wu-Tang clan, to name a few, tends to hone and sharpen your skills. These experiences led him to craft his highly regarded debut album, which now lends its title to this new show, Hip-Hop Revisited. A bold title for a bold project that served as a welcome, and refreshing, introduction into the world of this multifaceted artist; or as one writer described him, “The embodiment of hip-hop’s evolution.” (more…)
