Why Bosley Is Winning the Music Video Scene in Baltimore

As we all know, Baltimore is a city filled with great music. Baltimore is known for its diversity of music genres from our strong punk scene to our excellent and renowned hip hop world. One Baltimore soul artist, Bosley, is slaying the music video scene with innovative and fun videos.
You can find all of Bosley’s music videos on his website, http://www.bosleymusic.net/media-adversary/. Each of Bosley’s music videos is a like a small film onto itself. Each have their own aesthetic and style yet all are captivating and wildly fun. The video for his song, Jungles, is 100% animated and black and white. The video is all a chase scene. The aesthetic of the video can best be described as Looney Tunes meets Hitchcock.
Drastically different, but equally as fun, is the music video for Temptation.The aesthetic is a sort of “funk noir” combining the style of 1920’s films with ’60s soul, a blend of styles and decades that I never knew I craved until I saw it and now I can’t get enough.
Bosley is just as fun to watch live as on video. The nine piece band that is Bosley are all wildly talented, each bringing something unique to the table. The “Boslettes” aka the lovely singers that accompany Bosley have choreographed dance moves for each song and are known for their fabulous outfits. Of course, the man himself, Bosley, is a visual feast, reveling in outfits that would make the greats like Chuck Berry and James Brown proud.

When visiting B-More with the fam jam I think the Maryland Science Center, situated in the heart of the inner harbor, is the perfect place to go! Its for the kids and the adults! Learn about the blue crab in Follow the Blue Crab exhibit or head to the SpaceLink exhibit to see what it is like to be an astronaut, planetary explorer, engineer or astronomer. The Maryland Science Center features over 10 interactive exhibits for everyone to enjoy and learn from. They offer a variety of Science Encounters, including an observatory! The next event they have coming up is on March 14th for Pi(e) Day to celebrate the wonder that is Pi!

Caleb Stine and the Brakemen: Time I Let It Go

Caleb Stine and the Brakemen, Time I Let It Go
A fundamental constituent of the Baltimore folk scene, Caleb Stine is the everyman’s shaman. Sharp-jawed and six-foot-something, topped by a trucker hat and a voice akin to James Taylor, Stine’s spiritual cowboy is lonely, but decidedly hopeful. His lyrical cadence is effortless and his delivery sincere. Time I Let It Go is hardly a departure from this signature style and message. It’s his most well developed record to date.
Stand out track, Edge of the Riverside, laments only momentarily: “I’ve got a little time ‘til I fly away, I gotta choose the words that I wanna say.” This is the movement of the songs on this album – from disillusionment to determination. When Stine delivers “When your entire comes down to chance you don’t have the right to run” it’s received as an emphatic mystic revelation through the sitar drone.
The Brakemen bring harmony and companionship– singing backup on songs like title track Time I Let It Go. The album is thoroughly collaborative- there is even a documentary to prove it. Sorrowfully, Stine moans ”Broken glass all over the seat, cut on my hand, wrapped in a sheet” – he’s hurting but not bleeding out. It’s under control…sort of. Far from the brooding type – “Butter in my belly is the butter I like most” –Stine runs the gamut from the Beyond to biscuits on this album. It’s a playful and unpretentious project, full of life and well-constructed tunes.
Time I Let It Go is a gainful venture into the hearts of everyday people – after all, Stine is one of us. Take a listen at one of his live local shows, or on his website, calebstine.com.

At only 25, Josh Taerk’s album Here’s to change has an old time feel; the album sounds very mature and polished from someone so young. In some instances it sounds like a live album than a studio recording. Lyrics that give off hues of personal experience, triumph and growth radiate through out the entire album. Museum Monday: Gifts of Art for a New Century

Skip away on your lunch break this Wednesday to Baltimore Museum of Art to get a guided tour of the new exhibition, New Arrivals: Gifts of Art for a New Century. This exhibit is composed of about 200 fresh pieces that tie in perfectly with pieces already in the exhibit. There will be paintings by the French artist, Pierre Bonnard, and some amazing Japanese screens.
These works will be accompanied by newer pieces like James Abbot McNeill Whistler’s Nocturne , great work from Cameroon, and smaller sculpture from Antoine Louis Barye.

Food Friday: Bar Clavel

Tacos, Chips, and Salsa, three words that bring a genuine wave of happiness over me. I don’t know you, but I bet it does for you too.
To go along with an excellent ambiance is some appetizing food. I was once told by a friend from Mexico that the staple for her family is the tortilla, apparently Bar Clavel follows the same principle as they make homemade gluten-free tortillas. Their meat is pure quality and organic, something not always seen these days. Bite in to a Chambarete taco (remember those home made tortillas) and taste the juicy angus beef steak and tantalizing spices! Or, take a spoonful (a big one) of Caldo de Verduras made of corn, cabbage, chayote, carrot, calabaza, and green beans! There are plenty of options for you and your friends to enjoy!
Soooo, I am highly recommending you stop by Bar Clavel for an ultra hipster night of taco eating and guac dipping.

Rivalry Renewed

There will be another chapter added to one of the best rivalries in college lacrosse this Saturday as the Battle for North Charles is renewed. #6 Johns Hopkins will take on #8 Loyola University Maryland at 1 pm at Ridley Athletic Complex.
This is the 53rd meeting between two of the best programs in college lacrosse. This rivalry is typically an annual meeting however, the two teams did not square off last year due to scheduling conflicts and conference changes. Read the rest of this entry »

Betty Moon, a Toronto born singer, songwriter, producer and filmmaker’s album Pantomania is an album that exhibits her deep sultry vocal tone. Her music as well as the album has vibes from Madonna and musicality similar to bands like WarPaint, Phantogram and Massive Attack. The sound is very spacey/futuristic pop with an underlying rock base executed by the distorted guitars. The sound is very mesmerizing and groovy; one of the songs on the album “Thunder” sounds a lot like “R U Mine?” by the Arctic Monkeys. Read the rest of this entry »

This weekend I think you should de-stress from your day job by going paintballing! Take a random and wacky break from your daily activities. Go for getting plastered by paint instead of filing those papers. Route 40 Paintball Park is the perfect place to go for this! Route 40 was created a professional paintball player, Tommy Maliszweski, so you know that it is a legit paintball tournament setup. They are adding new air ball fields, and for your wacky wednesdays during the summer, route 40 will be lighting up the fields at night!
Stop by Route 40 for an awesome time with friends and family! Enjoy this challenging and fun game!
