The Birds Are Back In Town

Sports TalkGet ready to hear some “O’s” screamed during the National Anthem for the first time this season.

The birds are back in town this Friday as the Baltimore Orioles head back to Camden Yards for their 2015 home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.

For the first time in 17 years, the O’s head into a season as the defending AL East Champs. They finished last year’s regular season with a 96-66 record and made it all the way to the ALCS before being swept by the Kansas City Royals.

O’s fans will shake off the pain of how last season ended, and proudly welcome the birds back to Baltimore on Friday when Bud Norris will take the mound against Mark Buehrle. Read the rest of this entry »

WLOY Battle of the Bands!

TONIGHT. McGuire Hall. 8-10PM. It’s an event you DON’T want to miss.

Student bands Breakforth, GWB.com, Starfight and John Vincent (feat. Grace Charlton) will be performing for you vote, along with the votes of 5 renowned judges from the Baltimore area, do decide who will open for Loyolapalooza 2015! The bands are killer this year and the competition is fierce. In addition to all the amazing live music, WLOY will be giving away mercy, having trivia between bands and running a hashtag compeition with concert tickets being the grans prize! But… you gotta BE THERE to win! So we will see you, TONIGHT, in McGuire Hall at 8PM to watch these four incredible bands duke it out for the position of top dog and the first slot on the Loyolapalooza bill!

A Final Four of Great Mentors

The stage is set. It’s next stop: Indianapolis for Kentucky, Wisconsin, Duke, and Michigan State.

While these may be the Final Four teams, the true Final Four consists of four men who have proven themselves to be experts of their coaching craft for years. These greats are John Calipari, Bo Ryan, Mike Krzyzewski, and Tom Izzo.

Four men that have ascended to the top of college basketball, all using completely different styles, and all taking very different paths to get to this year’s Final Four.

All horror movie-style jokes aside, Kentucky has looked to be in a league all their own this basketball season. After advancing to the Elite 8 after a 78-39 beat down of West Virginia in which the Mountaineers never came close to even competing with the Wildcats, there has been one question on the minds of everyone watching college basketball.

Don’t Tweet If You’re Gonna Be A Twit

Sports TalkIf you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all, and certainly don’t say it on Twitter if you’re involved in college athletics!

Social media has revolutionized the way that we communicate, allowing us to share our thoughts on a global scale instantaneously. However, those who don’t know how to harness this immense scope of power and outreach should just stay far away from it.

Athletes and those involved in college athletics, in particular, need to remember that they live under a microscope, and every tweet they post will be seen by at least somebody. It seems that WVU Men’s Basketball head coach Bob Huggins’ daughters and Bloomsburg University baseball player, Joey Casselberry, didn’t get that memo. Read the rest of this entry »
