This Thursday April 14 WLOY is hosting another Movie Night in the Reading Room. This time, we’ll be showing the 2009 comedy, Pirate Radio. Directed and written by Richard Curtis, the film’s ensemble cast features Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifan, Nick Frost, and Kenneth Branagh. Set in 1966, Pirate Radio follows the journey of one boat’s diverse crew that broadcasts rock and pop music to the United Kingdom under a pirate radio station called “Radio Rock.” British authorities will attempt to shut this illegal station down, but it takes a lot of effort to shut off the music for this rambunctious, seafaring company.

Explosions In The Sky – Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

April 12th, 2011 by WLOY Staff

Then again, other fresh ideas at the time of The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place’s release included the launch of iTunes and the U.S. planning an invasion of Iraq… dating the post-rockers, but not as much as the troupe of copy-cats have dated them. Point is, it’s been a while since EITS were in the heyday of sprawling, simplistic, post-rock masterpieces. Oh, how far they’ve fallen. It’s said that necessity is the mother of invention— this makes sense in regards to Take Care, Take Care, Take Care because it’s an album devoid Read the rest of this entry »

April 9th, 2011 by WLOY Staff
