January 31st, 2013 by WLOY Staff
It’s a new week here at WLOY and we have a ton of additions to our Top 40. Look to Mother Mother or The Bronx for some refreshing rock music, or Unknown Mortal Orchestra which marries soul with psychedelica. A few of our mainstays are still near the top, but look out for new additions next week from the likes of Shugo Tokumaru, Frightened Rabbit, and Low, to name a few! Pictured to the left is the mastermind behind Panthu du Prince, one of our newcomers Hendrik Weber. Read the rest of this entry »

The Loyola Sports Weekly Update
January 31st, 2013 by WLOY Staff
WLOY likes to bring the finest in Sports Entertainment.
Per week, the scientist in our sports laboratories will attempt to combine and condense all of the sports “stuff” out there. They will then help present it in a very beautiful and eccentric audio clip. Now, you probably noticed that I tried to make a science type of pun. I gave it half way through because I felt presenting this clip to you was much more important so please, enjoy!

With the Ravens in the Super Bowl, Baltimore fever has undoubtedly struck! This single is entitled “Baltimore” and is a collaboration with folk singer Caleb Stine. An Evening with Tegan & Sara
January 29th, 2013 by WLOY Staff
A flat tire, three broken brake lines, and four hours of traffic – the Universe really didn’t want me, an avid Tegan & Sara fan, to attend their concert in Richmond this weekend. Somehow, I made it to the National at seven ‘o’ clock on the nose – right when the doors opened – in time to purchase a t-shirt, order a gin and tonic, and sit up in the seats with all of the other L.o.T.’s – Lesbians Over Twenty-One.
It was my second time seeing the band live in concert, and the audience demographic hasn’t changed much: lesbians with half-shaved heads, lesbians with labret piercings, a random dad and his ten-year-old son, lesbians wearing visors, and hipsters in plaid. I’m all-too-aware that, after only 122 words, the word “lesbian” appears five times. It’s true, the twins have a reputation for attracting a certain crowd, but it only serves to create an incredibly tight-knit community of mutual worshippers and makes the shows all the more enjoyable.

Thursday: Late Night with Fractal Cat and Brooks Long
January 28th, 2013 by WLOY Staff
Make sure to swing by McGuire Hall this Thursday, January 31 at 9 p.m. to catch the ONLY late night event this semester. The event will feature music from Fractal Cat and Brooks Long. Fractal Cat is a six-piece rock ensemble hailing from Baltimore who’s style as been described as “musically uplifting” with “playfully mystical lyrics”. Brooks Long is a singer/ song writer from the Baltimore/DC area who uses a blend of old school rhythm and blues with 21st century rock to create a style all his own.

Oh and did I mention that in addition to being a FREE concert there will also be FREE refreshments? Well if you’re not sold on all this freedom yet I suggest you get out of America because clearly you missed the memo. Be sure not to miss it!
