Soulful, inspiring, talented, relatable, and smooth are all words that may come to one’s mind when listening to Baltimore native hip hop/ R&B artist Von Tae’s album Broken Boundaries of Existence. At just 20 years old, his lyrics can relate to those of all ages who have been in love, through a tough break-up, or just looking to have a good time. Von Tae provides his listeners with a variety of melodies, beats, and sounds that are coupled with a wide range of very relatable lyrics. Each track offers a different sound but all provide an enjoyable experience. This upcoming artist delivers a great mix of rap and vocals that are sure to please anyone looking to hear good music.

Caleb Stine and Saleem Pay Homage to “Baltimore”

Saleem Heggins is no stranger to WLOY, and he is back to share a single that honors his hometown and the city we all love…Baltimore. With the Ravens in the Super Bowl, Baltimore fever has undoubtedly struck! This single is entitled “Baltimore” and is a collaboration with folk singer Caleb Stine. The combination of Saleem’s rap/spoken word style and Caleb’s singing is not only a perfect mix for the song, but it represents the diverse culture and people of this mini-metropolis. (more…)

Thursday: Late Night with Fractal Cat and Brooks Long

Make sure to swing by McGuire Hall this Thursday, January 31 at 9 p.m. to catch the ONLY late night event this semester. The event will feature music from Fractal Cat and Brooks Long. Fractal Cat is a six-piece rock ensemble hailing from Baltimore who’s style as been described as “musically uplifting” with “playfully mystical lyrics”. Brooks Long is a singer/ song writer from the Baltimore/DC area who uses a blend of old school rhythm and blues with 21st century rock to create a style all his own.

We will also be selling our new PURPLE (color of royalty) WLOY t-shirts at the event along with conducting a free raffle that will give the winner FREE tickets to the band Toro y Moi.

Oh and did I mention that in addition to being a FREE concert there will also be FREE refreshments? Well if you’re not sold on all this freedom yet I suggest you get out of America because clearly you missed the memo. Be sure not to miss it!

This year’s Battle of the Bands will on March 21st, which gives all those willing a full nine weeks to gather forces and put together a set to rock the competition. No matter if you spit rhymes or shred the axe, all musicians are invited to compete. Coffee and snacks will be provided to all who attend.

“Word on the Street” Gets More Press

WOTS Issue 1We were pretty excited when the paper we support “Word on the Street” got a couple of recent mentions in the local press.  We were more excited when Marc Steiner interviewed members of the paper on his show on WEAA.  Now the paper has front page coverage in the Baltimore Sun!  Rumor has it that NBC is interested as well!  This is a great start to a new year!  You can support Word on the Street too!

Christmas Overload!

We held back as long as we could, but it’s time.  Starting today at 2 with Kat & Rae’s Christmas Show you’ll be hearing more and more Christmas music.   Tune in for the annual Moldie Oldies Christmas Eve Show noon – 3 on Christmas Eve.  On Christmas Day, we’ll go all Christmas all day, featuring the Moldie Oldies Christmas Day special noon – 3.  Yep 24 straight hours of Christmas music.  This is, of course, all assuming the Mayan’s simply ran out of space on their calendar.
