We have all been waiting with baited breath for Beyoncé to release new music. After multiple Instagram posts of Bey in the recording studio, the announcement of a world tour and Baby Blue Ivy as fresh inspiration, all of her fans have been wondering when the new album will come out and what will the first single sound like. Will it be a ballad about the birth of her adorable new daughter? Or maybe a club hit like Run the World or Party? (more…)

Sports Saturday: Mud Run?

Sunday, March 17th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

Mud Run
Have you ever wanted to push yourself to the max? On May 5th, your dreams may finally come true.

Straight from the website, www.TerrapinMudRun.com, they say,

“Terrapin Adventures is teaming up with Playworks Baltimore to put together a 5K mud run to help raise money to bring recess to schools in the Baltimore area. The Terrapin and the Hare Mud Run is a fun, high intensity, obstacle course run through the woods of Savage, Maryland.

Starting at Terrapin Adventures, the Terrapin and the Hare will include 5 Kilometers of very tough terrain and will contain obstacles such as, climbing walls, tires, webs, and, of course, mud. This race is not for the weak of heart. If you like a challenge and some food topped off with a beer from the Rams Head Tavern at the finish, then the Terrapin and the Hare is the race for you. Come run, jump, climb and get muddy for recess on May 6. Bringing the family? Playworks coaches will provide games and activities for the kids while you run the course.”

So what else is there really to say but, “I am going for it, Anthony (that’s me, the Sports Director)”

For more information, go to www.TerrapinMudRun.com for prices and sign up information.

Sports Saturdays: Tuesday and Thursday Runs at Goucher College

Saturday, March 16th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

running-away

Sometimes, it is better to actually participate in an athletic activity than just catch the highlights on ESPN. Sometimes, it is better to just try and meet some friends and run somewhere.

Yes, running, America’s Past Time….I mean, America’s…thing we should all do once and a while.

At Goucher College, every Tuesdays and Thursdays, the BRRC Club runs along the trails that surround Goucher. Goucher graciously allows for private individuals to coordinate with each other and take recreational runs together. Runs are mostly at night and it is often smart to check ahead of time to make sure their is a run going on.

Now, the event is perfect for all levels. Beginners will often be able to run with each other and as you get more comfortable, along with your body becoming more acclimated to long distance running, you can move up with the next level and so on.

It is a great way to relax and de-stress and happens to be on key days of the week when stress is at its maximum

Top 40 for 3.14.13

Thursday, March 14th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

936full-thom-yorkeLast week gave us m b v, and this week blesses us with Amok, the new album from Atoms of Peace. If you haven’t yet heard of them, it’s basically another vehicle for Radiohead-mastermind Thom Yorke to call his own. This time, he’s joined by Red Hot Chili Peppers’s bassist Flea, as well as a Radiohead produced, Beck’s drummer, and a Brazilian percussionist. The album has some sweet Brazilian vibes to it, and many have compared it to Thom Yorke’s other project, The Eraser. We highly recommend it if you’re into that kinda thing. Otherwise, enjoy spring break, WLOY listeners!

Sports Saturdays: Tri to Help Midnight Indoor Triathlon

Thursday, March 14th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

Train for a Triathlon 460
This Saturday at 9PM, the Stroup Kid For Kids Epilepsy Foundation is hosting a triathlon at Meadowbrook Aquatic & Fitness Center.

The Stroup Kid For Kids Epilepsy Foundation is dedicated to helping individuals affected by epilepsy and other seizure disorders. They raise money for education, advocacy in government, and for research in treatments for those that suffer from this condition.

The organization was formed in 2004 after Adelyn Stroup, the daughter of Trent and Tina Stroup, had her first seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Her parents didn’t know where to go after their daughter had just been diagnosed with a very rare form of epilepsy. They pooled some assets together and attempted to find research and others who may have been in a similar situation. Soon, a large organization formed and began to advocate for others like Adelyn. Is that baseball I smell? Or hear? It’s Baseball Season

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 by WLOY Staff

EVAN LONGORIAThe groundhog that claims to know about the weather told the world we still have about another month of winter. However, baseball didn’t get that memo and began to report to training camp as early as this week. Full team squads began Monday, and around the country teams are looking to defeat the defending World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants.

Leading up to the start of baseball season, we will look extensively at each division in both conferences.

This week we start with the American League East.
Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles didn’t do much in regards to free agency. Instead, the Orioles seemed to focus on securing the core team that they established when making their run to the World Series. The Orioles did add some help in Alexi Cassilla, Steve Pearce, and Randy Wolfe. They also picked up some minor league contracts to help during Spring Training. (more…)
