Self-classified as “hypnojams”, Which magic tries to put their audience in a sleep-like trans. Take a break form the hustle-and-bustle of all of the mid-semester drama, and come relax at Starbucks this Thursday night, 10/4, from 8:00pm-9:00pm. The band specializes in dream-soul vocals and guitar and drum loops. This Thursday is not just about relaxing though; to prepare for College Radio Day this Friday, we will be doing a GIVEAWAY at the show this Thursday! Don’t miss out on the chance to win.

Lavender & Modern Nomad LIVE 9/20

WLOY will be hosting Washington DC’s Lavender and Baltimore’s own, Modern Nomad– and I honestly could not think of a better sound combination. If you think of driving in the car with the windows down on a comfortably warm summer’s day and you only had your thoughts and a soundtrack– this concert would be it. Lavender and Modern Nomad’s alt indie vibes will put you into a dream-like trans. Lavender is closer in likeness to the 1975, but with a female vocalist, where Modern Nomad has a more Tame Impala feel to them. Trust me this is not a show you want to miss; hope to see you there.

Learn about the Chinese culture by listening to the music–not to mention, a WLOY favorite, Cecilia Grace will be performing on the main stage at 5:00pm. Take a moment to experience the art, whether that be in the form of jewelry or lanterns (maybe even buy a few things). Max Bent Beatbox & Open Mic 9/13

This week in Coffeehouse we have the return of master beat boxer Max Bent! As he did last year, Max will perform as well as work with students and teach them to beat box, or provide a beat behind them as they perform. Think of it as an Open Mic with a built in percussionist. Last year Max worked with poets, singers, and players as well as doing his own performance. Paul Nelson Interview

Legendary session guitarist, bluesman and producer Paul Nelson sat down before his recent show in town with DJ Tim Tilghman from the Radio RockonTour show. They talked about starting in the world of Jazz Fusion and session playing and how it led to touring with the great Johnny Winter. Paul produced Johnny’s first solo Grammy winner, toured with him and got him clean after decades of serious drug abuse. Listen to the whole interview here

Jackie Cohen – Studio Seizure

Cohen is an “anti-folk” singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California who plays with deep poetic lyricism. Summer Happenings at WLOY (part 1)

There is a lot going on this summer at WLOY. We kicked it off with an amazing Honfest experience (despite the rain) that drew big crowds to our stage and connected great bands with new audiences. While preparing for that we had boxes upon boxes of new stuff arriving. Why? We can’t show you everything but WLOY is going DIGITAL. All of our studios are being upgraded to networked digital audio systems, just like all the top stations in the world use now. We’ll be able to do all sorts of cool new stuff, including more podcasts, remote broadcasts and live band events. We are also building a new live room for all those bands that keep trying to fit in our small studios to perform. More teasers to follow on that front! For now, just check out the resourcefulness of our GM Tara. When confronted with so many boxes she couldn’t use a desk, she turned them into her own private office! Stay tuned to see just what we’re going to take out of all those boxes!

What Happens Next? New Episode

Katie worked with some of our usual crew to create new episodes (posted in our full page list) and Tara is working on completing a cool new summer workbook with a call-in feature for kids!
