Summer Happenings at WLOY (part 1)
Wednesday, July 11th, 2018 by The Professor
There is a lot going on this summer at WLOY. We kicked it off with an amazing Honfest experience (despite the rain) that drew big crowds to our stage and connected great bands with new audiences. While preparing for that we had boxes upon boxes of new stuff arriving. Why? We can’t show you everything but WLOY is going DIGITAL. All of our studios are being upgraded to networked digital audio systems, just like all the top stations in the world use now. We’ll be able to do all sorts of cool new stuff, including more podcasts, remote broadcasts and live band events. We are also building a new live room for all those bands that keep trying to fit in our small studios to perform. More teasers to follow on that front! For now, just check out the resourcefulness of our GM Tara. When confronted with so many boxes she couldn’t use a desk, she turned them into her own private office! Stay tuned to see just what we’re going to take out of all those boxes!

What Happens Next? New Episode
Friday, June 22nd, 2018 by The Professor
While it may be summer time, we still squeeze an occasional episode of our award-winning kids show into the mix. Katie worked with some of our usual crew to create new episodes (posted in our full page list) and Tara is working on completing a cool new summer workbook with a call-in feature for kids!
This week’s episode is “A Greener Playground” in which Harley notices that her school playground is ridiculously littered. Gabrielle, Sydney, and kids from Govans elementary tell us what she decides to do about it. [audio:https://wloy.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/WHN-051218.mp3]
Check back for new episode posts, listen in on Saturdays and Sundays at 12pm to hear them first, and dig through our recent show archives to hear past episodes of What Happens Next?

Honfest 2018 – WLOY Stage
Friday, May 25th, 2018 by WLOY Staff
I can’t believe it’s June already – and you know what that means, Honfest! Grab your hairspray, throw on your feather boa, and practice your best Bawlmerese accent to get ready. WLOY is excited to celebrate the 25th year of Honfest with the WLOY Stage again this year. Honfest is Saturday, June 9th, and Sunday, June 10th, 2018, and WLOY will be there all weekend! WLOY is proud to host the WLOY stage and is bringing a great lineup stacked full of local and some of the station’s favorite artists and bands. The WLOY stage will be located on 36th street at the Chestnut street intersection (right across from The Charmery).
This is quite possibly our most diverse lineup yet, so there is something for everyone. We are so excited for this year’s line up, and we hope you are too! See you there!

Studio Seizure with The Crowning
Monday, April 16th, 2018 by The Professor
Steph got to spend some time with Stroudsburg, PA’s The Crowning for our most recent Studio Seizure. While they’re a bit heavier than her usual Vineyard Vibes show, she had a great time talking about the band, their tour and influences. Micah (Vocals, Guitar) and Ty (Bass) stopped in after their Baltimore gig and hung out with Steph for over an hour. The show ran long so we have an edited version playing on the air, but you lucky fans can hear the full 70 minutes here [audio:https://wloy.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/SS-The-Crowning-040918.mp3]

Caleb Stine @ Coffeehouse 3/15
Saturday, March 10th, 2018 by WLOY Staff
Baltimore’s own, Caleb Stine, is an amazing folk singer-songwriter, and we could not be more excited to have him perform at our coffeehouse event this Thursday (3/15). Stine has not only released over ten albums, but has scored movies and film. He was even a subject for the film, “It Would Not Let Me Be”. His latest film score debuted at SXSW this week and WLOY plans to bring the film to campus in the fall. Caleb is adept as a solo performer or band leader and has so many local musicians in his circle you never know who might join him at a performance! With a new album coming in May you can also expect to hear something fresh this week!
As always WLOY will also have free tickets to upcoming shows you can win from Baltimore Soundstage as a bonus just for hanging out with us!
