Tebow Time in Philly!
Monday, April 20th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
Praise everything. Tim Tebow is returning to the NFL.
The city of brotherly love is getting a dose of Tebow Time next season, as the Eagles reached a 1-year contract agreement with the QB.
Chip Kelly’s crazy roster moves continue to make headlines and shock the world, but this one comes as a huge surprise, especially since they already traded for Sam Bradford (how that move is going to play out or be utilized further, I have no idea yet).
A plan for Tebow must be set in place if Kelly is going to contradict his previously vocalized thoughts on Tebow.
Oh. Do we not remember that? Back in 2011 when Kelly was still at Oregon, he had this to say on the former Florida Gators Heisman winner:
“I look for a quarterback who can run and not a running back who can throw,” Kelly said four years ago. “I want a quarterback who can beat you with his arm. We are not a Tim Tebow type of quarterback team. I am not going to run my quarterback 20 times on power runs.” (more…)

Philadelphi-Huh?: Breaking Down The Eagles Moves
Monday, March 9th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
Chip Kelly has been given near-full control of the Philadelphia Eagles, and has been on a free-agent and front office frenzy ever since.
Eagles fans have been biting their nails the last couple of days, agonizing over the flurry of moves Kelly has done in an attempt to restructure the team.
People all over the league are a little puzzled, and rightfully so, but it seems that there is a method to the madness. Whether it will work or not is another story entirely.
Here’s a summary of the Eagles’ moves thus far this offseason:
Out: RB LeSean McCoy, WR Jeremy Maclin, OG Todd Herremans, LB Trent Cole, CB Cary Williams.
In/Staying: LB Kiko Alonso, CB Byron Maxwell, RB Frank Gore, QB Mark Sanchez, LB Brad Jones. (more…)

Cam Newton Injured In Two-Car Crash
Wednesday, December 10th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
On Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina, Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton, was involved in a two-car collision close to the team’s stadium.
The police report declared that Newton was not at fault, as he was going an appropriate speed when another driver cut him off.
The accident leaves Newton with two transverse fractures in his lower back, a similar injury to that suffered by Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo earlier this season. (more…)

Johnny Manziel Comes In For Browns
Monday, December 1st, 2014 by WLOY Staff
The Cleveland Browns may have just lit the fuse on the Johnny Manziel era, and there may be no snuffing it out.
In the 4th quarter of the Browns game against the Buffalo Bills, with Cleveland down 20-3, Head Coach Mike Pettine made the move to bring in Manziel in place of a struggling Brian Hoyer.
Manziel came in and immediately led the Browns 80 yards down the field, capping off the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. Of course, Manziel showed his Money Manziel celebration after scoring his first NFL regular season touchdown.
In the end, the effort wasn’t enough as the Browns fell to the Bills in Buffalo, 26-10. However, the in-game decision to bring in Manziel does create a quarterback controversy.

Beckham Jr. Breaks The Internet With Ridiculous Catch
Monday, November 24th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Last night on Sunday Night Football, New York Giants rookie wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., made quite possibly the greatest catch in NFL history on a 43-yard touchdown.
He flew to the ball and grabbed it with one hand in superhuman acrobatic fashion, almost as if he was Spider-Man.
As soon as Beckham landed in the endzone and the official threw his hands up to signal a touchdown, people’s jaws dropped through the floor, their heads exploded as if they had stared at the Ark of the Covenant, and all them internets broke.
Beckham’s Giants teammate, Victor Cruz, tweeted what we were all thinking, “That’s the best catch I’ve ever seen.”

Sports Saturdays: Snow Moves Bills-Jets To Detroit
Saturday, November 22nd, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Let it snow, let it snow, oh wait no! Make it stop! That’s what the people of Buffalo are singing right now after having upwards of 8 feet of snow dumped on them in recent days.
With not enough resources to have Ralph Wilson Stadium ready for go-time on Sunday at 1:00pm, the NFL has decided to move the AFC East game against the Jets away from Buffalo.
Players have even resorted to trekking to the stadium on foot for practice this week. Bills wide receiver Chris Hogan tweeted out Friday morning, “Still snowed in! Walking to the stadium.”
The game between the Jets and the Bills will be played at Ford Field in Detroit, where weather can not possibly be a factor, seeing as it is a totally enclosed stadium.

NEw Team To Beat In The AFC?
Monday, November 17th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
The rest of the AFC looked on in fear at the scene at Lucas Oil Field last night as the New England Patriots made a statement by manhandling the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis, winning 42-20.
New England has been surging after a rough start to the season, but until yesterday, they were still number two in the AFC to the Broncos, and just above the Colts for number three.
However, with the impressive display the Patriots put on against the Colts in their own house last night, and the Broncos upset loss with some injuries thrown in to the Rams, it’s hard to argue against the Patriots as the top team in the AFC.

Rams Change Mind About Davis; Start Hill
Wednesday, November 12th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Jeff Fisher is a very good coach, but he just made a very stupid, shallow move.
Just two days after making the announcement that Austin Davis, the 2nd-year gunslinger from the University of Southern Mississippi, would continue to be the starter for the St. Louis Rams, Fisher changed his mind and made the decision to start veteran quarterback Shaun Hill instead.
Davis has been the starter for 8 of the 9 games for the Rams this season after Hill went down in the season opener. In those 8 starts, Davis has gone 3-5, throwing for 2,001 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Davis currently has a season passer rating of 85.1 and a QBR of 37.6.
The glaring issue for Davis is the fact that he has had many costly turnovers in his last couple of games. This past week against the division opponent Cardinals, Davis threw 2 interceptions and lost a fumble in the 4th quarter. But what 1st-year starter isn’t going to struggle against the Cardinals defense?

Manning Makes History; Breaks TD Record
Monday, October 20th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
This weekend in Denver, Peyton Manning made history by breaking Brett Favre’s all-time NFL career touchdown pass record of 508.
It seems an eternity since Manning threw his first career TD pass to Marvin Harrison back in 1998, but now in 2014 and in the heart of his 17th NFL season, Manning sits at a record 510 career TD passes, a record he will continue to add on to for as long as he plays.
The record-breaking 509th TD pass came with 3:09 remaining in the first half on an 8-yard pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
When asked about the historical catch, Thomas said, “I thought before the play I might have a chance…I just wanted to make sure I got my feet down. I’m grateful for the chance.”
Manning, a player known for keeping his calm demeanor and his emotions in check, couldn’t help but give a big smile as he saw the official signal for touchdown pass number 509.

How Bout Them Cowboys!
Monday, October 13th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
This weekend, the Dallas Cowboys pulled off the seemingly impossible task of going into Seattle and beating the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field.
What may be even more impressive is that way that they beat Seattle. The Cowboys won using a gameplan that hasn’t appeared in Dallas since they last won a Super Bowl, a gameplan that revolves around balance and physicality.
Dallas’ offensive line is proving that they are one of the best in the league, their defense is being physical at the point of attack and forcing turnovers, running back Demarco Murray is playing like an MVP back, starting with 6-straight 100-plus yard games on the ground, and quarterback Tony Romo is looking sharp and not turning the ball over.
