When in Maryland get seafood. That is the number one tourist thing, in my mind, that you can do… and it is delicious. So now through March 31st head down to Phillips Seafood for a delicious Oysterfest , conveniently located in the heart of the inner harbor. While you’re there stop by the aquarium, go on a boat ride, or rent a dragon paddle boat! There are so many things do while enjoying a large helping of meaty oysters at Phillips! Sugar Free Allstars self-titled album comes out April 2nd. The children’s artist takes a more new wave approach to children’s music. While some children’s music can be acoustic and pretty low-key, Sugar Free Allstars has elements of disco, jazz, blues, and funk that collectively make up their songs. This makes them very upbeat, akin to the personality and activity of young children. Their music is also something that adults can get into to, so if you have you’re on a long car ride and pop this album in, you can groove along as well. Sugar Free Allstars, is definitely unique in the world of Children’s music in that again it does appeal to many different age groups, their sound is to get you up to move and groove. The production is very good on the album and lyrically, it is very children friendly and easy to understand. Looking for a break from traditional children’s music? I would definitely get this album!

Frances England, a children’s artist releases her new album Explorer of the World is absolutely fun and whimsical. England’s voice is absolutely perfect for children’s music, the primarily acoustic album is not only good for children but is also something adults can get into as well. Her voice is light airy and absolutely infectious, her songs are simply cute and you can’t help but to smile. The production on the album is fairly good, but the songs and the vibe of the songs makes up tremendously for the decent production. If you have kids, or just want music to chill too, I would definitely check this album out!

Stop on by the Baltimore Museum of Art for an awesome cultural experience! Now through July 3 BMA will be hosting the Matisse Prints and Drawings! BMA was able to acquire a wonderful collection of Matisse prints through the Cone sisters. They have the famous The Yellow Dress in this collection, gifted from New York City. This is a collection you really do not want to miss out on!

Late Night Coffee House with Ruut!

Ruut will be coming to play this Thursday at WLOY’s coffeehouse!
Come by to hear Ruut belt out some amazing melodies. Ruut is a talented pianist and artist from Finland, by age 7 she had already perfected the piano and writing songs. She just came out with a great new album, Untold Stories, her first original album!
Make sure to stop by our cozy coffee house located in the 3rd floor reading room, right above the book store, this Thursday at 8pm to hear some great tunes.

Ruut Gets Ready to Tell “UnTold Stories”

Local Baltimore artist, Ruut, has awed the world with her raw storytelling through music. Ruut’s voice is baroque, rife with emotion and honesty. Her original work is deeply human combining transcendent vocals with truthful narratives. Her phenomenal style and emotional intelligence transforms well known songs. Ruut has covered many songs from across all genres, from Taylor Swift’s Style to Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun. Ruut’s cover of Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy” interprets this incredibly profound song and captures its devastating subject matter with poignancy and delicacy.

Her music has been influenced by her numerous travels from her native Finland, to Budapest, Nashville, NY, LA and now Baltimore, each new location informing her overall sound. Her cover of Sia’s Chandeliers pust her native tongue on display. Ruut translated Chandeliers into Finnish and performed her own arrangement of Sia’s iconic ballad.

Local singer songwriter, Mark Hopkins, has wowed us with previous albums like Room Service and Evidence. His unique style is old school fun and will always put you in a good mood, which is why the release of his two new singles, “Ball & Chain” and “The Man You Could’ve Loved” is such fantastic news!
“Ball & Chain” is classic Mark Hopkins. It’s old time blues feel combined with humorous lyrics about the pleasures of domesticity make this single a must listen. “The Man You Could’ve Loved” is a bit of a departure from Mark Hopkins’ signature style. This single is classic Americana with a tune perfect for lounging around a bonfire. The release of these two different singles demonstrates Mark Hopkins’ refreshing and startling ability to adapt to different music genres. He excels at blending various aspects of American culture into a sound that is uniquely Mark Hopkins.
