WLOY Coffeehouse: Black Rhinoceros

April 24th, 2017 by WLOY Staff

WLOY’s last event of the semester is here and we’re not sure how we feel about it. Of course we saved the best for last, but saying goodbye all our Thursday night fun is tragic. No matter how you’re feeling about the end of the semester though, Black Rhinoceros and openers, Divided Heaven are sure pick you up. Black Rhinocerous, an acoustic pop duo will be playing their relaxing, chill tunes on guitar and cello, which is the perfect music to cram to finals to. As self-proclaimed nerd rock, Black Rhinoceros will be sure to appreciate you studying to their music.

By combining Erin’s cello and vocal skills with Ahren’s guitar and vocal, Black Rhinoceros create complex melodies, harmonies and chord progressions in order to make some beautiful songs that you’ll want to listen to forever. Check out what is mean with their song, Gaius, which you can listen to here. Don’t miss it live though! This Thursday. Outside Starbucks. 8-10pm.

Explore Baltimore: The Food Market

April 21st, 2017 by WLOY Staff

What: The Food Market

Where: 1017 W 36th St.

When: Sun-Thurs, 5pm-11pm Fri & Sat, 5pm-12am

The Food Market loves to cook up some comfort food, but make it gourmet. Described as a place for foodies to feel their exotic side, this restaurant and its award-winning chef, Chad Gauss, combine regular ingredients with irregular and “unparalleled” techniques. Gauss, who has been sharing his love for cooking since the age of 14, adds a twist on classic foods. In the mood for something like pizza or chicken finger? Well try them twist with menu options like crispy lobster fingers or a duck confit flatbread.  But if you’re not feeling that adventurous, The Food Market still has the basics like the boring caesar salad or a warm lobster roll. Regardless, this amazing food as well as the industrial-modern vibe create a full, enjoyable dining experience for everyone.

They brought some of their (and our) favorite local albums, and talked about the process of recording their own latest piece of vinyl Let It In.

Studio Seizures run every Monday 7-8pm, except this week it’s 7-9pm with 2 special hours of Sweet Leda!

Explore Baltimore: Psycho at The Senator

April 10th, 2017 by WLOY Staff

What: Psycho at The Senator

Where: The Senator, 5904 York Rd

When: Wed. April 19th, 7pm; Sun. April 23th, 10am; Mon. 24th, 1pm; Tues. April 25th, 1pm

As part of their Spring Revival Series, The Senator is showing the classic horror movie, Psycho. This Hitchcock thriller, known for its iconic scene that takes place in the shower, is a must-see, especially in a cool theater like The Senator. Follow the secretary, Marion Crane, as she stops at a remote motel after spending time on the run. Here she meets Norman Bates, the high strung motel owner who loves taxidermy and has some difficult love for his mother. This black and white film already has an old time feel, and in the old fashioned Senator, you’ll feel like you’re watching it in the theaters back in 1960. Don’t miss this chance to appreciate this classic the classic way and be scared!
