Join WLOY in the Mayor’s Christmas Parade!
December 1st, 2010 by WLOY Staff
This year WLOY was invited to be in the 38th Annual Mayor’s Christmas Parade this Sunday December 5! What better way to get in the holiday spirit than to join the WLOY van in its Yuletide journey. The parade departs from Baltimore Polytechnic High School parking lot (where Loyola buses meet you to go to the Ridley Athletic Complex) at 2pm. From there, the parade will follow Falls Road south to 36th Street in Hampden (The Avenue), turn East on 36th Street and North on Chestnut Ave, ending at 37th and Chestnut. WLOY is very excited to represent Loyola in this year’s parade, and we’re proud to say that we will be the only non-commercial media operation involved in one of Baltimore’s great traditions!

Road to a Championship: Dylon Cormier
December 1st, 2010 by WLOY Staff
Two men will lead Loyola Mens Basketball to a championship in the MAAC.
Dylon Cormier and Jamal Barney. Together, the hope of a MAAC Conference Championship and a NCAA run are present and alive.
First off, Dylon Cormier, Freshman Guard, has done a great job so far for the Greyhounds as the starting Point Guard. In his outings, Cormier has had a great command for the game, dictating plays well and controlling the atmosphere on the court. In many ways, Cormier works the ball as if a younger Derek Fischer or Steve Nash were present. When he played at now-defunct Cardinal Gibbons High school, he was chosen two times for the All-Baltimore selection. As he takes command as the starting point guard, Cormier will be looked at by opposing teams as a force to be reckoned with.

Game Summary: Loyola Men’s Basketball vs. Vermont
November 29th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
Loyola drops their first game after their two game winning streak to Vermont, 51-48.
Loyola did not play it’s finest basketball. No player scored in the double digits. For Vermont, only one player, Evan Fjeld, scored 15 points.
However, both teams did well defensively, with Loyola grabbing a total of 33 rebounds, Etherly leading the team with 13 rebounds. Vermont was able to put together 42 rebounds with Matt Glass leading with 10.
As the team moves on to play Morgan State, Loyola’s Defense will get tested again against Morgan State’s fast paced offense tonight at Morgan. Game play starts at 7 PM.
Follow the Greyhounds at www.loyolagreyhounds.com or tune into tonight’s game on ESPN 1300. Also, check out the 7 Minute Sports every week and listen to the Sports Block with Anthony and Co. at 1 every Friday, only here at WLOY LOYOLA RADIO.

7 Minute Sports: Jim Paquette Part 3
November 29th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
In this week’s edition of the 7 Minute Sports Slam, I bring to you the last segment in the Jim Paquette Interview series.
In this segment, Jim and I talked about the expectations of the Basketball Team, a team that this year shows promise in making it far in the MAAC Championship, and the overall expectations of each respective sport.
In the interview, I try to determine why certain support for specific sports fall the way that they do. Jim does a great job of opening up the Athletic Program to students and allowing for students to get a better understand of things under the hood of our program.

Museum Monday: The Baltimore Museum of Industry
November 29th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
Do you know what city had the first traffic light? The oldest gas company in America? How about the world’s largest copper refinery? I bet you do. Baltimore! And at the Baltimore Museum of Industry you’ll get the opportunity to see just how proud Baltimore is of its reputation as a “working man’s town.”
Right now, you can “Relive the Industrial Revolution,” putting yourself in the time period and interacting with the industries that propelled Baltimore forward. From printing to garment-making, metalworking to umbrella-manufacturing, you’re sure to be surprised at some of the things Baltimore began. Not to mention many of the transportation artifacts that have been preserved and made their way into history.

November 26th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
It’s that time of the year again. Soccer comes to an end and the next great sport here at Loyola takes the helm of the Athletic Program’s ship. Of course, I am talking about Loyola Basketball. Every year, fans get excited for the home games as the Marching Flock get prepared to warm fans’ hearts and inspire true Athletic Spirit. Every year, fans stand behind the Men’s team just to see hopes of a MAAC championship slip out of our grasp. Then it’s April and it’s time to gear up for Lacrosse, the sport that matters.
