The Flashbulb – Love As A Dark Hallway
March 17th, 2011 by WLOY Staff
Benn Jordan, as communicated over his last three albums especially, is a bit of an eccentric, an extremist of the electronic genre as I know it. Look at his past few albums. Kirlian Selections wasn’t just diverse, it was a breathtaking medley of styles and influences. Soundtrack To A Vacant Life wasn’t merely interesting, it was enthralling, captivating; and Arboreal wasn’t simply active, it was teeming with energy. Excuse the obvious hyperbole, but The Flashbulb, Jordan’s artistic moniker, calls for it. Read the rest of this entry »

Eireann go braugh! It’s St. Patrick’s Day!
March 17th, 2011 by WLOY Staff
La brea ata ann. Ni lia tir na nos. B’fhearr liom liomanaid, beoir, uisce beatha. Tá mé air meisce. Oh, sorry? You don’t speak Gaelic? Pardon me – I just thought that everyone was Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! Originally a day to celebrate the life of St. Patrick, the man who expelled snakes from Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day has turned into one of the leading holidays for the consumption of alcohol. I’m sure that Saint Patrick is looking down on the world today, and is incredibly pleased at how his legacy is living on in these United States. Make sure that, on this very special occasion, you do what you think is appropriate to commemorate the life of Saint Patrick. La Fheile Phadraig!

Theater Thursday: Cabaret at Germano’s Trattoria
March 17th, 2011 by WLOY Staff
A great way to check out some of Baltimore’s thriving culture is to stop by the Cabaret at Germano’s Trattoria. Since May of 2008 Germano’s has hosted countless local acts, as well as performers from all over, interested in adding to the flavor of Charm City. Theater, jazz, classical, opera…the Cabaret has it all. The greatest aspect; however, is the informal, yet intimate environment created by the performers. Guests can enjoy amazing Tuscan food before or during the performance, and can grab a drink with the performers after the show. Read the rest of this entry »

How Do YOU Relay?
March 16th, 2011 by WLOY Staff
WLOY has TWO events in store to benefit Relay For Life. First, on Tuesday March 22, we’ll be DJing at Stoneleigh Lanes in Towson. The cost is $10, and that covers your transportation, shoes, and bowling from 9PM to 12AM.
Next, on Thursday March 24, we’ll be hosting Karaoke Wars in the Reading Room from 9PM to 11PM for only a $2 entry fee. You can pay to sing a song of your choosing, you can pay to torture your roommates/friends to keep them on stage, or you can pay to just make the bad music stop.
Bring your friends to both events, and keep in mind that ALL proceeds benefit Relay For Life.
As for the actual Relay event on March 26, we’ll be DJing the entire night – that’s right, all nine hours – and if you want to hear a certain song, we’ll be taking requests at the low, low price of $1! And, of course, you can join or donate to our Relay team here.
