Wacky Wednesdays: The Art of Baltimore
March 26th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Where: Lyric Opera House
Over the last century, Baltimore Burlesque has evolved in step with the city’s history. During the Golden Age of Burlesque in the first half of the 20th century, Baltimore culture was epitomized by The Block, an area in downtown that defined the city’s culture and nightlife. Currently, Baltimore Burlesque is indicative of the inclusive and accessible culture of the city through its multiple genres and diverse performers.
This fun and risqué showcase celebrates the rich local history behind burlesque——an art form that combines slapstick humor, dance, and striptease. Explore burlesque’s evolution——from the early 20th century to the present——through live performances and exhibits featuring historical as well as contemporary artifacts.

WLOY Coffee House Presents: Nalani & Sarina
March 25th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
This week at WLOY we’re bringing you a fresh new artist to feed your eye and ear holes. Or rather, I should say “artists” to more appropriately describe sister duo Nalani & Sarina. Heading straight down the Garden State Turnpike, Nalani & Sarina will be traveling here to our humble stage to grace us with some of their melodic creations. This past January Nalani & Sarina released their first full-length album “Lessons Learned,” which features fourteen original songs written and performed by these multi-intramentalist talents. Also, the group has quite the experience performing at a wide array of college campuses as well as notable music festivals around the northeast. Nalani & Sarina will be whipin’ out their sound cannons starting 9pm sharp, in the 3rd floor reading room! Meet them first on their Youtube page or website.
