A New Sheriff In Town for Golf
April 13th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
“Well…I’m glad that wasn’t a dream.”
This was the tweet that 21-year-old Jordan Spieth sent out just hours after winning the 79th Masters. Actually, “winning” just doesn’t encapsulate exactly what Spieth did this weekend at Augusta National.
Spieth led wire-to-wire, set a new 36-hole scoring record for the most storied golf course in the United States, hit the most birdies in tournament history, and tied an all-time Masters scoring record. So, yeah, “winning” doesn’t quite cut it.
What he did win or earn was America’s attention.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 21-year-old Spieth is finding success this early in his career. He’s got a near-flawless technique, he’s incredibly intelligent, he’s strong between the ears, and he has a respect for the game that extends far beyond his years.
Of course, comparisons are already being made to Tiger Woods, especially since Spieth is the youngest player to win the Masters since…well, Tiger in 1997. Read the rest of this entry »

Sports Saturdays: McClure Tennis Center To Open
April 11th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
Loyola’s brand new tennis complex will be unveiled on Saturday at 11:30am, in time for the tennis teams to play Bucknell later in the day.
In a happy and well deserved twist, Loyola will be dedicating the new tennis center to the man who has been at the helm of the tennis program since 1979, and has earned over 700 wins during his tenure, Rick McClure.
The McClure Tennis Center is a stunning eight-court, lighted facility on the grounds of Ridley Athletic Complex. This new complex is only possible thanks to a generous, anonymous $3.2-million donation.
An opening reception will take place at 11:30am, and the dedication ceremony itself will start at 12:30pm. After the festivities end, the Hounds will play their first matches ever in the new complex when they play host to Bucknell.
All who attend are welcome to join McClure and the players in a post-match reception in the Class of 1968 Suite at Ridley.

The Birds Are Back In Town
April 9th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
Get ready to hear some “O’s” screamed during the National Anthem for the first time this season.
The birds are back in town this Friday as the Baltimore Orioles head back to Camden Yards for their 2015 home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.
For the first time in 17 years, the O’s head into a season as the defending AL East Champs. They finished last year’s regular season with a 96-66 record and made it all the way to the ALCS before being swept by the Kansas City Royals.
O’s fans will shake off the pain of how last season ended, and proudly welcome the birds back to Baltimore on Friday when Bud Norris will take the mound against Mark Buehrle. Read the rest of this entry »
