Tourism Tuesday: Fells Point
October 13th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
What: Fells Point
Where: Main Street, Baltimore, MD
When: Anytime!
When in Baltimore one must stop by Fells Point (a personal favorite). The entire neighborhood is filled with character from the cobble stone streets, to the colorful townhouses with the unique doors. It is a historical neighborhood that began in 1726 when shipping company was built at its waterfront.
Fells is filled with pubs, restaurants, and boutiques. Dine at Alexander’s Tavern and enjoy their many different varieties of tatters tots … so good. Stop by One- Eyed Mikes for a drink afterwards and maybe sooth your palette with Pitango Gelato. For those music lovers, which I hope you all are, go to the Sound Garden and pick up your favorite vinyl.
Not in the mood to shop, eat or drink? That’s fine! Enjoy a trip on the Water Taxi, or a Baltimore Ghost Tour; quite fitting for October!
There is an ample amount to do and see when visiting Fells Point!

More interviews to post!
October 12th, 2015 by The Professor
It’s been an insane last week here at WLOY! We’ve had Dead Flowers, Red Sammy and Jake Star all in the studio for interviews and even some music. We chatted by phone with The Sheepdogs, and (of all people) Herb Alpert! It might take us a moment to get the perfect versions of those up here, but stay tuned, we have more coming! In addition we’ve been working with local 8th graders to create and record their own radio plays! Plus, of course, tons of great music and our live shows with Canopy & Swampcandy. We’re crazy busy but don’t forget to check in and see what’s next – tickets, shows and more! Did we mention we’re going to be hosting an Open Mic Night 10/22 and showing the amazing Rocky Horror Picture Show on the quad 10/29?

Allen Stone Interview
October 11th, 2015 by The Professor
Kat & Rae (of the infamous Kat & Rae Midday show) had a nice phone chat with Allen Stone about his upcoming show (11/11 make a wish!) at Baltimore Soundstage a few days ago. Allen survived their lightning round of questions and shared the experience of being an on-demand Uber driver, among the tasty tidbits. Is it the hats, or the hair that intrigues them more? You’ll have to listen in to find out. And ignore the digital whoops and bloops that our phone system made… sorry.

2015-16 Loyola Basketball Season Preview
October 10th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
The college basketball season is right around the corner and if there is going to be a year in which Loyola basketball wins the Patriot League, the 2015-16 season is definitely that year. This team has a perfect mixture of veteran leadership and young talent.
The Greyhounds have four seniors on the team and they are all expected to play pivotal roles this year. Loyola gets big man Jarred Jones back after playing in only two games last year due to injury. The men in green also return Franz Rassman who started every game last season, Eric Laster who was the team MVP last year, and Tyler Hubbard who is the only member of the team who was on the 2012 team that won the MAAC championship.

Theater Thursday: Book of Mormon
October 8th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
What: Book of Mormon
Where: Hippodrome Theatre
When: November 3-15
Starting November 3rd the musical The Book Of Mormon is coming to the Hippodrome Theatre! This most certainly is a-can’t-miss show! It has the reputation of one of the funniest musicals out there and has already won 9 Tony Awards—you will not be disappointed.
It is co-directed by Trey Parker, co-written by Matt Stone and Robert Lopez. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the creators of the popular and funny, South Park television series along with several other comedies. Trey Parker says it was to be, “happy and optimistic” musical, in the least cheesy way.
The Book of Mormon is a satirical musical based on… you guessed it… the Book of Mormon. It is about a young man Elder Cummingham learning how to preach the Book of Mormon. Along with its wittiness it boasts some wonderful show tunes that you’ll be compelled to sing all evening.
