Originally from Pennsylvania, Brian completed a Masters program in Philosophy and taught Intro to Philosophy college classes. He shares his story of how he became homeless, moved to Baltimore, and has now nearly finished writing a book with a humorous take on his life, titled, “The World is My Home, Life as a Free-Range Human.” Download a sample chapter. Also, Sylvia, Charles (a homeless veteran) and Sharrion, share their thoughts on what HOME means to them.

A live special edition of Both Feet In! Dr. Sylvia Park speaks with Monifa Wilson about her job working with homeless youth in Baltimore City. She shares what it’s like working as a Service Navigator for the City Steps program of AIRS (AIDS Interfaith Residential Services, www.airshome.org), how she chose to work with youth who are experiencing homelessness, and the insights she’s gained along the way. Prior to earning her Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Maryland, Ms. Wilson worked for 10 years in various positions such as a community organizer for a union, a case manager at a homeless day shelter in New York City, and working with foster care children. Vote for WLOY in Pepsi Grant Competition!

We found out this morning that we’re officially in the running for a $50,000 grant that will allow us to expand the What Happens Next program into at least 5 more schools!
We’ll be able to print materials, provide enhanced teacher training, and build 5 in-school studios for at least 5 Baltimore City Public Schools if we win! Only the top 10 vote totals win grants, so we need your help! You can go vote here and please tell everyone you’ve ever met about it!
This is an awesome opportunity for us to expand our program and make a real impact on the kids in Baltimore City Public Schools. Every vote counts and we only have until the end of August!!!

After more than 20 years of living on he streets, JR speaks to us from his home. He gives this advice to you: “Get all the education you can, soak it up…. do it for yourself, not for anybody else…” and talks about how he survived sleeping in the alleyways for so long. He also plays a few notes on his guitar, as music “soothes the soul.”

Celebrate the 4th of July with WLOY!

Join Nick Centanni on WLOY 12-2PM and 6-8PM for 2 separate beachfront broadcasts of the Moldy Oldie Show this July 4!
Nick will have a mix of upbeat summer songs, Independence Day facts, jokes, and of course periodic visits from campus royalty via the ‘gold campus royalty phone.’ Nick will be up to his usual tricks so you won’t know what to expect next.
