Honfest Spotlight: Mike McMonagle

Mike McMonagle is a folk singer-songwriter from Lancaster, PA. He says that he is inspired by “trains, wine and Virginia”. His songs combine heartfelt and truthful lyrics with straight forward, solid guitar chords. Fly Magazine described him as “…armed with a formidable mustache and a penchant for honest, rousing folk songs, [McMonagle] sounds like the Avett Brothers, minus Rick Rubin, plus Bob Dylan, plus a dirty bandana.” It doesn’t get much better than that. Bob Dylan, Avett Brothers AND a dirty bandana! What more could you ask for! Mike McMonagle will be gracing Baltimore with his presence on June. 14th at WLOY’s stage during Honfest. Honfest Spotlight: Maria Dontas

Loyola alum, Maria Dontas, is a singularly talented individual. She is a lovely, smart woman who has also been gifted with the voice of a Greek goddess. Maria Dontas is a singer-songwriter. She writes and performs her very own songs and has been kind enough to grace Loyola with her talents. She will be performing again for WLOY this summer on June. 14th. Honfest Spotlight: Nalani and Sarina

Nalani and Sarina Bolton are a singer-songwriter duo from Delaware. They are immensely talented and combine fantastic vocals with thoughtful lyrics. Their guitar, piano and tambourine skills bring it home to create a truly harmonious tone. Loyola was lucky enough to be graced with their presence this year. Baltimore is going to be lucky enough to welcome Nalani and Sarina again this summer at Honfest. The two will be performing at WLOY’s stage on June 14th. Nalani & Sarina Interview

Following their performance at our WLOY Coffeehouse, I had the chance to sit down with Nalani & Sarina, the dynamic, twinning duo who can hold their own in the music game. The extremely talented pair graced our ears with their singing abilities, along with each playing the guitar, piano and ukelele. What Is The WLOY Staff Listening To?

This newly released EP from Irish artist, Hozier, has been on repeat since I discovered it last week. I first heard Hozier on Teen Wolf, judge me, with his work from his first EP, and his second certainly does not disappoint. I cannot stop listening to the hauntingly beautiful tones and intricate lyrics of all four songs off the new EP. Give it a listen and melo out.

Top 20 Tracks 4.20.14

This week we have the highly anticipated “Girl” topping our chart. The xx producer/percussionist released his fourth solo single earlier this week, and it’s thumping bass and reverb vocal makes dancing to this track almost irresistible. Also on our chart is another cut off of Mac DeMarco’s Salad Days, as well as tUnE-yArDs’ “Water Fountain” which received an extremely psychedelic music video this week (check it out here). Honfest Spotlight: Mark Hopkins

Every year, Baltimoreans turn out to celebrate their “Baltimore-ness” in Hampden with food, toilet bowl races and, of course music. This year, WLOY has it’s own stage where local artists will be playing ALL day! It is sure to be a fantastic time. One such talented local artist is Mark Hopkins. A self described “small-town funky white kid”, Mark Hopkins plays soulfully and dulectly. He has released several albums in the past and has recently come out with a new single titled “Miss Coincidence”. If you know what’s good for you, check out his website! It’s sure to please! Be sure to come out June 14th.
