Luke Graham-Blue
Released: April 01, 2016
Rate: 4/10
Lukas Graham, originally from Christiania an artistic community in the middle of Copenhagen, released his second studio album, Blue through Warner Bros. Records. Originally garnering American buzz and success from his song, “7 years”, the album is a kind of a disappointment. Blue, is pretty stagnant and does not drift far, melodically from 7 years. Graham however, does try to explore other genres of music: some R&B, some funk, etc. but it ends up making the album come off sloppy and disjointed. (more…)

Cardiknox-Potrait

Cardiknox-Portrait
Released: March 11, 2016
Rate: 7/10
Cardiknox a duo from New York City, recently released their LP Portrait and it is a mix of disco, dance pop and synth. If you like Marina and the Diamonds, Chvrches or even Sky Fierra you will definitely enjoy this album. Though a duo, Cardiknox creates such a huge sound that completes its lyrically honesty. The song, “Shadowboxing” chronicles a relationship, and fighting for someone and musically captures the moment perfectly, making listeners like you and me able to not only picture but also feel what they went through or trying to convey. Their vocalist, has such a huge voice that compliments their sound very well. The two are signed to Warner Brothers, who have artist like Echosmith, I believe with an up and coming artist like Cardiknox, that they would compliment Echosmith very well on any upcoming tour they may have. There is not much to say about the album, the music speaks for itself. Their immense honesty speaks for itself. I would definitely, check them out because they definitely have that “it” factor!

Cullen Omori- New Misery
Friday, March 11th, 2016 by WLOY Staff
Cullen Omori– New Misery
Released: March 18, 2016
Rate: 6/10
Cullen Omori is coming out with a new album March 18. New Misery is heavily synth driven, and generally a very chill album. Omori sounds like a slightly darker version of the band “Swmrs” mixed with a blast from the past. The production of the album is very well done, the guitar tone is amazing, and every instrument fits in perfectly. Though this may be a plus, I wish the album had more depth to it, the album just seems to be dragging along, I would love to hear more drums, or even a tonal difference in Omori’s voice, some more character or ”attitude”. The laid back attitude can sometimes get very mundane. Other than that, I think the album is a very good, one, you can tell that Omori has developed his sound and the type of music he enjoys playing. He is just starting out and I think he has a lot of room for growth and a bright future ahead.
