Mike Mains & The Branches Interview
Monday, October 8th, 2018 by The Professor
On Monday October 8, Emma caught Mike Mains on the phone for a few minutes between DC and Philly shows. She managed not to mention Mac DeMarco even once. Mike discussed his newest single and the new album When We Were In Love due later this year.
Mike Mains & The Branches first entered the national music scene with the release of their debut album Home, released in 2012. While touring Home, founding members Mike and Shannon fell in love and got married. Mike and Shannon began writing their second album, which they crowdfunded without the support of a record label, in 2013. Matt Hoopes, of Relient K, would produce the finished album, with Zach Farro of Paramore, playing drums. They the finished Calm Down Everything’s Fine and released the album in 2014. The album hit the top 20 ranks on Billboard’s New Artist Albums Chart.

Self-classified as “hypnojams”, Which magic tries to put their audience in a sleep-like trans. Coffeehouse 9/27: Nalani & Sarina
Monday, September 24th, 2018 by WLOY Staff
We love a repeat act here at WLOY… and believe me Nalani & Sarina are not strangers to our Thursday night performances. We have had them back for years now, and we just cannot get enough. This Thursday, September 27th, Nalani & Sarina will be playing a Coffeehouse performance next to Starbucks from 8-10pm. The two are an American soul-rock duo, that sing play keyboard, guitar, and ukulele–amongst many other instruments. Originally from New Jersey, they’ve been performing mostly on the east coast, opening for artists such as A Great Big World, Mary Lambert, and Howie Day, as well as, performing at a TEDx event held at Firefly Music Festival in Delaware in 2017. Bring your homework, grab a coffee, and listen to some warm vocals this chilly Thursday night.
Below you can listen to our Studio Seizure with them!

Lavender & Modern Nomad LIVE 9/20
Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 by The Professor
Late Night at McGuire Hall. 8pm-10pm. Be there or be square. WLOY will be hosting Washington DC’s Lavender and Baltimore’s own, Modern Nomad– and I honestly could not think of a better sound combination. If you think of driving in the car with the windows down on a comfortably warm summer’s day and you only had your thoughts and a soundtrack– this concert would be it. Lavender and Modern Nomad’s alt indie vibes will put you into a dream-like trans. Lavender is closer in likeness to the 1975, but with a female vocalist, where Modern Nomad has a more Tame Impala feel to them. Trust me this is not a show you want to miss; hope to see you there.
