Majority Onion & F City at Blackbox 9/19
Tuesday, September 17th, 2019 by WLOY Staff
This Thursday, Majority Onion, featuring beatboxer Max Brent, and F City will be playing here at Loyola in the Blackbox Theatre from 8-10pm. Majority Onion is a Baltimore based band with a sound described as “farm funk”. Their songs feature bass, vocals, and beatboxing by Max Brent, who also creates his own original music and performs for all ages from pre-kindergarten to adult. F City is a band also from Baltimore, featuring Paul Joyce on bass, Lala Anderson on lead vocals and keyboards, and Landis Expandis on lead vocals and drums. Their genre is described as “soul punk”, one that could fit a variety of settings from a dance club to a rock show. They’re fun, eccentric, and brilliantly weird. They’ll also be performing at Hampdenfest on September 21st, so be sure to check that out. Come out this Thursday to the Blackbox Theatre and experience Majority Onion and F City!

Skribe at Coffeehouse 9/12
Monday, September 9th, 2019 by The Professor
SKRIBE returns to the stage at WLOY’s weekly coffeehouse this week. A great songwriter and performer, Skribe brings along some special treats for every show. Not content to play the guitar or the drums or the banjo, or anything so common, he makes his own instruments. Check out the bass drum suitcase, the gas can turned guitar or banjo, or a “canjo-zookie” as the case may be… and many more surprises. He’s also a fantastic visual artist so take a look at the stickers, t-shirts and other things he’ll have to share. For more about Skribe, check out his website and make sure you swing by Starbucks this Thursday from 8-10pm to check him out live! And yes, there will be kazoos.

Hampdenfest 2019
Friday, August 23rd, 2019 by The Professor
Another Year, Another Awesome Poster! School is starting, leaves are turning, we all flash back to our younger days in fond memories… ok, not that, but it IS time for the annual HAMPDENFEST party to take over the Hampden neighborhood just down the road from WLOY and the suddenly very full Loyola campus.
FREE Shuttles will run all day from Loyola to Hampden so you can go, wander around, stuff your face, laugh at the maniacal beauty of rolling toilets and jump around to a ton of great music. Best of all, you can do all that without a taxi, Uber, or Lyft and save that cash for the food and stuff!
3 stages of music all day, with a fantastic lineup on every one, make this a must attend event before you throw in all the other fun stuff. Check out great bands we’ve had on campus: Raindeer, PLRLS and (THIS WEEK!) F City among others. See you there 🙂

Concert Review: Thunderpussy at Metro Gallery
Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 by WLOY Staff

Whitney and Molly
of Thunderpussy
I had the chance to see Thunderpussy on Sunday, August 11th, at Metro Gallery here in good ole’ Baltimore. It was the Seattle based band’s first show in Baltimore. The show was opened by Baltimore’s own, Thunder Club. Thunder Club was very quick to acknowledge that there was no relation between them and Thunderpussy, but instead, was just a happy accident. Thunder Club opened the show with an incredible set of indie rock that was energetic, fun and incredibly good. I’m a little ashamed to admit that I hadn’t heard of Thunder Club before that since they are from the area, but will be sure to listen to now. Isn’t that what live music is for?! Their new EP, Summer Vice, is the perfect album for summer days, and I’m sure will stay in my rotation for a while.

The Holy Circle Seize The Studio
Monday, July 29th, 2019 by The Professor
This weeks guest on Studio Seizure was The Holy Circle. We had all three members in plus a couple of tiny roadies who helped keep things moving along. With a playlist from Kate Bush to Cherubs, there’s a bit of everything included. The new album Sick With Love just dropped as well and you can catch them Sunday at The Metro Gallery for their album release show. Welcome Terence, Erica and Rob (plus Rob’s spawn) to the studio and definitely check out their fantastic new album! Whether you call it “goth mom rock” or some other odd thing, it’s a great listen with a fantastic blending of ethereal, noise, pop, shoegaze and more. Just trust us and give it a listen!
