Museum Mondays: 17th Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race
Monday, April 27th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
What: 17th Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race
Where: American Visionary Art Museum
When: Saturday, May 2nd, 2015// All day (Race kicks off at 10:00 am)
The American Visionary Art Museum is holding its 17th Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race this Saturday, May 2nd. If you haven’t been to the Kinetic Sculpture Race before, don’t know what a Kinetic Sculpture is, or maybe don’t even know what kinetic means, now is your chance to get in on the action and find out! These creative, functional, human-run sculptures are beautifully made to conquer 15 miles of rocky roads, massive mud-pits, the depths of “quick” sand, and treacherous water crossings! Some sculptures are small, simple, and questionably safe, while others can be over 50-feet long, aesthetically phenomenal, and build by lunatic engineers who are hungry for victory in their beautiful moving sculptures. All of the sculptures are 100% human-built and human-powered works of art. Get a great view of the race from various places around the city; to name just a few: Atop Federal Hill, the Korean War Memorial Park in Canton, and Patterson Park. No matter where you are Baltimore, you won’t want to miss this crazy, kooky, Kinetic Sculpture Race. Find out more about the race and the American Visionary Art Museum here!

Sports Saturdays: How Amazin’ Are The Mets?
Saturday, April 25th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
Don’t look now, but the New York Mets seem to be back in their “Amazin'” form for the first time in ages.
As the Mets prepare to start the Subway Series against their Bronx rivals, the New York Yankees, they find themselves at the top of the MLB with a 13-3 record, while also riding the momentum of an 11-game win streak.
They’re finally in a position to take New York and all of the major leagues by storm, but just how Amazin’ are these Mets?
Just going by the numbers, you have to be impressed with this team. Their 11-game win streak is the longest they’ve been on since 1986, when they also started 2-3 before the streak started.
They also accomplished these win totals at the start of the season with a win streak in 1969.
The Mets won the World Series both of those years. (more…)

Sports Saturdays: McClure Tennis Center To Open
Saturday, April 11th, 2015 by WLOY Staff
Loyola’s brand new tennis complex will be unveiled on Saturday at 11:30am, in time for the tennis teams to play Bucknell later in the day.
In a happy and well deserved twist, Loyola will be dedicating the new tennis center to the man who has been at the helm of the tennis program since 1979, and has earned over 700 wins during his tenure, Rick McClure.
The McClure Tennis Center is a stunning eight-court, lighted facility on the grounds of Ridley Athletic Complex. This new complex is only possible thanks to a generous, anonymous $3.2-million donation.
An opening reception will take place at 11:30am, and the dedication ceremony itself will start at 12:30pm. After the festivities end, the Hounds will play their first matches ever in the new complex when they play host to Bucknell.
All who attend are welcome to join McClure and the players in a post-match reception in the Class of 1968 Suite at Ridley.
