War Horse Tickets

Once again, WLOY wants to send you to opening night at the Hippodrome! This time to see the remarkable theatrical version of War Horse on February 4th. Win tickets at our Thursday Coffeehouse events and during our Friday Live at Boulder shows.
A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship. England, 1914.
As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
This powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London and New York. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.
The performances are daily from 2/4-2/9, with 8:00pm shows during the week and 2 shows on Saturday (2 & 8pm) and Sunday (1:00 & 6:30pm). More details and tickets can be found here.

Coffee House: Open Mic Night

Howdy to all those coffee house ramblers and acoustic enthusiasts. This Thursday we commence the WLOY Coffee House late night series with a open mic opportunity. If your talent thrives on a stage, we welcome you. Musicians bring your instruments, poets your words, and contortionists your arms and legs. And even if you aren’t intending on performing, just come to see the talent the Loyola community has been harboring. Performers arrive by 9pm, in the 3rd floor reading room.

WLOY Holiday Music Bash

It’s Christmas time at WLOY! We wait ever year until Christmas Eve, unlike those stations that go all Christmas sometime in late August… Starting at midnight we will be all Christmas on Christmas Eve and Day, with student and alumni specials. And since we know people at home won’t want to miss their family and friends shows, we’re going to rerun some of them too. We have 8 different DJs with their own special Christmas wish for you, including the annual return of Nick Centanni (Moldie Oldies Show Wednesdays 10a-12p) with two big segments the Ultimate Christmas Eve Show and the Ultimate Christmas Day Show featuring 6 hours of his guests, great tunes and possibly the return of Ziggy.

WLOY Picks Ten Christmas Classics

Well, maybe we picked 11, because we play music and can’t count. Ok, give us a break. We polled a few current and former staff members to see what they can’t live without at Christmas time. You know, the music that makes them enjoy the season, not want to shove pencils in their ears if they have to hear it one more time (Elmo & Patsy, we’re looking at you). The Great Russian Nutcracker – Moscow Ballet

WLOY Coffee House Presents: Singer Song-writer Workshop with Claire Anthony

Last week we were graced with the enchanting sounds of Caleb Stine, but WLOY isn’t going to stop there! This Thursday, WLOY Coffee House Series hosts Claire Anthony, a young Baltimore singer song-writer. Claire’s soothing sound perfectly captures the ambiance of a cozy coffee house amidst a chilly November evening. However, although Claire will be performing her songs she also encourages all to share their own material. This is both a performance for the music lover, and workshop for those novice artists. It is a great opportunity to get feedback and improve your own material. So bring your guitar, or your rhymes, or maybe only your ears. Either way, the event begins Thursday evening, 9pm, in the third floor reading room. In the mean time, check out some of Claire’s music.

CBI Playback!

WLOY was took the trophy in categories: Best Community Involvement for Word on the Street and Best Feature for our original production What Happens Next. WLOY Cleans Up San Antonio

When we got to the National Student Electronic Media Convention in San Antonio, they had all these trophies lying around messing up the place. It seemed a shame to mess up a nice looking city like San Antonio, and since we care about that kind of stuff, we helped make it nice and neat. Taking the trophies back to Baltimore seemed the best plan.
