Open House at WLOY Station 10/24

This Thursday from 7-9pm, WLOY will be hosting an open house at our station. This will be an opportunity for you and all your friends to come get a tour of our station, look through our extensive music library, ask questions, and find out more about what we do and how you can get involved! We’ll have a live DJ throughout the night who will be helping visitors get on the air and record their very own station promo and there’ll even be some cool prizes for you to take home. Swing by the station, located at Bellarmine Hall, on Thursday between 7 and 9pm for music, fun, and prizes! Everyone is welcome. See you there!

Autarchii Live at Starbucks 10/10

Reggae artist Autarchii will be joining WLOY and the Caribbean Students Union on Thursday 10/10 from 8-10pm to help raise money for Bahamian relief. Join us for great music, raffles and to donate in support of World Central Kitchen and their massive food relief efforts in the Bahamas.

Fundraising for Bahamian Relief

WLOY and the Caribbean Students Union are teaming up to raise money for Bahamian relief aid through raffles and a great live show. Starting next week you can contribute at the tables set up by Boulder and enter the raffles.
On October 10th by Starbucks, we will present reggae artist Autarchii who has graciously offered to come to support our fundraising efforts in a FREE show. We will ask for donations, and be offering raffle tickets throughout the show. Please join us for an awesome night of music and help us feed those in need in the Bahamas. (more…)

Lavender at Blackbox 10/3

This Thursday, Lavender will be performing at the Blackbox Theatre, joined by special guest Ozmo. Lavender is a Washington D.C. based indie pop band who’s style can be compared to popular bands like The 1975 and Two Door Cinema Club. The band consists of close friends and ex-college roommates Emily Carlson (vocals), Alli Vega (guitar), Trent Burns (also guitar), and Matt Wright (drums). They have an unforgettable and irresistible sound you are sure to not only feel familiar with but also love. They describe it as “anthemic dream pop with atmospheric synths/guitars”. If you like that kind of cool, indie-pop vibe, this one’s totally for you! We hope to see you there, this Thursday from 8-10pm, for a (free) concert from Lavender at the Blackbox Theater!

Acoustic Paradise at Starbucks 9/26

Acoustic Paradise is a duo that sprung from an alternative rock band called Paradise Creek, that was created in Annapolis, Maryland back in 2014. The full band consists of Nik Diamondidis with vocals, Nick Macleay on guitar, Bobby Sacker on bass, Garrett Smith on guitar, and Nate Merrill on drums. The duo Acoustic Paradise, however, is made up of band members Nick Macleay and Bobby Sacker. Their sound and perspective is fresh and extremely relatable to young people, as they are quite young, themselves. In fact, Paradise Creek won our very own Loyola’s Battle of the Bands in 2016! Nick and Bobby will be performing here at Starbucks tonight from 8-10pm so be sure to come check it out…and if you like what you hear, stay on the lookout for our giveaway tomorrow where we’ll be giving out two tickets to go see the full band this Saturday at Zen West! Come on out to Starbucks tonight!

Baltimore Record Bazaar

Are you a vinyl fiend, new collector or just interested in something fun on a Sunday? Follow up your Saturday at Hampdenfest by digging in some crates for some new tunes. The Baltimore Record Bazaar has returned following the (very sad) closing of the great Windup Space with a new event at Peabody Heights Brewery (401 E 30th St, Baltimore). These are fun events for music lovers regardless of your choice of format. From CDs to 8-track tapes, you’re likely to find a bit of everything in the crates. Typically more than 30 vendors fill the space with tables full of classic and obscure vinyl. Baby’s on Fire (another great Baltimore place you need to visit) will be providing the food, and live DJs will provide entertainment (along with a special show from Loop Diggas) so you’ll be able to chill while you shop. Adult beverages will be available from Peabody Heights on-site brewery. Vendors will include Trax on Wax, Smash!, Joe’s Record Paradise, Mikie Love’s Discount Vinyl Shanty & Turntable Emporium, The Book Thing, Krony’s Records @ Just Audio, Kabukiman’s Treasure Dojo, Retro Effex, Mystery Sound Recordings, Boops Records, Rasslin’ Records, Chick’s Records, Indoor Games Records, Dj Kenny Megan, Bernie, & many more. Entry is FREE so you can put that cash into vinyl 🙂

Majority Onion & F City at Blackbox 9/19

This Thursday, Majority Onion, featuring beatboxer Max Brent, and F City will be playing here at Loyola in the Blackbox Theatre from 8-10pm. Majority Onion is a Baltimore based band with a sound described as “farm funk”. Their songs feature bass, vocals, and beatboxing by Max Brent, who also creates his own original music and performs for all ages from pre-kindergarten to adult. F City is a band also from Baltimore, featuring Paul Joyce on bass, Lala Anderson on lead vocals and keyboards, and Landis Expandis on lead vocals and drums. Their genre is described as “soul punk”, one that could fit a variety of settings from a dance club to a rock show. They’re fun, eccentric, and brilliantly weird. They’ll also be performing at Hampdenfest on September 21st, so be sure to check that out. Come out this Thursday to the Blackbox Theatre and experience Majority Onion and F City!

Skribe at Coffeehouse 9/12

SKRIBE returns to the stage at WLOY’s weekly coffeehouse this week. A great songwriter and performer, Skribe brings along some special treats for every show. Not content to play the guitar or the drums or the banjo, or anything so common, he makes his own instruments. Check out the bass drum suitcase, the gas can turned guitar or banjo, or a “canjo-zookie” as the case may be… and many more surprises. He’s also a fantastic visual artist so take a look at the stickers, t-shirts and other things he’ll have to share. Hampdenfest 2019

Another Year, Another Awesome Poster! School is starting, leaves are turning, we all flash back to our younger days in fond memories… ok, not that, but it IS time for the annual HAMPDENFEST party to take over the Hampden neighborhood just down the road from WLOY and the suddenly very full Loyola campus.
FREE Shuttles will run all day from Loyola to Hampden so you can go, wander around, stuff your face, laugh at the maniacal beauty of rolling toilets and jump around to a ton of great music. Best of all, you can do all that without a taxi, Uber, or Lyft and save that cash for the food and stuff!
3 stages of music all day, with a fantastic lineup on every one, make this a must attend event before you throw in all the other fun stuff. Check out great bands we’ve had on campus: Raindeer, PLRLS and (THIS WEEK!) F City among others. See you there 🙂
