Metalachi Studio Seizure 9/9/16
Monday, September 19th, 2016 by The Professor
How do you explain the brilliant madness that is Metalachi? And, more to the point, who in their right mind would give them control of a radio station?! We did. For 90 minutes the station was seized by a mad mix of heavy metal, mariachi music and George Michael… Yes, seriously. The band stopped by on the second night of their East Coast tour to hang out with our GM Tara and give her a dose of their show. Not only did they select all the music for the show, they even allowed us to play the advance version of their cover of Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades” which will be appearing on their upcoming second album, shockingly titled “Dos”. We will have some video and more photos to follow, but for now, we’re just busy trying to find the N’Sync bobble heads.
Show list:
Baby Got Back- Sir Mix Lot
She Blinded me with Science – Thomas “I live in Baltimore now” Dolby
Careless Whisper – George Michael
Ember City- Mastadon
Remember the Time- Michael Jackson
Have You Ever Loved a Woman- Bryan Adams
Tits- John Paragon (actually we couldn’t play this one for obvious reasons, but they wanted to)
Final Countdown- Europe
Holy Diver- Dio

Resident Metal Head, Matt Weitzel, was fortunate enough to get a two for one deal at the last stop on the first leg of I The Breather’s farewell tour, and got to chat with another hometown hero, Baltimore based Metal powerhouse, Fire In Elysium, as they were one of the opening acts for the night. Matt got the chance to discuss FIE’s upcoming album, the state of the Baltimore Music Scene, and the prospect of opening up for another Maryland Metal band, I The Breather, who have been able to live their dream for one of their last shows as a band, and what that means to them.

Toronzo Cannon Interview 2/27/16
Sunday, February 28th, 2016 by The Professor
Bluesman and MTA bus driver Toronzo Cannon lit up the scene at the 2016 Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival with a wild set at the Federal Taphouse to a hyped up crowd. Hitting tracks from his new Chicago Way album (his first on venerable blues label Alligator) and chewing on his Flying V strings, Toronzo had everyone’s attention. Last night, on day 2 of the festival, he jumped on stage with fellow Chicagoans Lil’ Ed and The Blues Imperials for a quick jam at The Chameleon Club. He also, after sharing some pizza and a nice stroll through downtown Lancaster, sat down with me to chat about his new album, touring on his vacation days and driving an MTA bus full time. We had to contend with fan interruptions and noise and finally ended up in a stairwell as he was kind enough to keep talking through the chaos. Toronzo’s getting a lot of well-deserved attention for his music, but don’t expect him to quit his day job!
