New Show Debut: dreamGAZE Thursday 6pm

This week we debut dreamGAZE from the minds of Terence and Erica Hannum (of the Baltimore band Holy Circle) focusing on dreampop, shoegaze and adjacent sounds – so expect A LOT of guitar pedals to be employed as they wash sounds over their listeners.
In their debut show they chat with artist Jake Reid of Secret Wilderness (and Machine Drift, Screen Vinyl Image, and Alcian Blue) about his journey with dreamgaze music, his early pioneering bands and more.
Episode two will feature the Candian shoegaze adjacent band ON and three may include Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing so stick around every Thursday at 6pm to get dreamy.

Alumni Spotlight: Linton Hinds (2006)

Linton Hinds, class of 2006 is a DJ, videographer, historian, podcaster, teacher and more…Linton has pursued a multi-faceted career from WLOY to 47th Street to the high school classroom and is behind the expanding I Never Knew TV/Radio empire (now including t-shirts, podcasts and music production). I Never Knew focuses on conversations regarding Rastafarianism, the history of the African diaspora, and Caribbean culture through interviews and music. His YouTube channel, “I Never Knew TV” has surpassed 440,00 subscribers and 44 million views, bringing in an audience seeking to uncover untold stories of culture, food, health and a history of reggae music. Johnny Cozza ’24 had the opportunity to interview Linton about his projects, his time as a DJ for WLOY (as a student and now as teacher), and how Loyola helped direct him and his creative pursuits – although he began his career as a high school history teacher, Hinds felt that his passion needed to be explored further, prompting the creation of I Never Knew TV & Radio. Q: Tell us a bit about your show
A: The Starry Night Show. The theme is pretty much just music we both really enjoy! We have super similar music tastes (91% match on Spotify) and want to share some of our favorite songs with everyone. We also have a section towards the end of our set where we both throw it back/slow it down with more relaxing, “oldie” style music that everyone remembers. Both Nez and I love art (Nez is a theatre major and I am a studio art minor) so our show reflects our love of art through our name with Van Gogh. 🙂 (more…)

A: Coffee Break. I host the show with Caitlin Cavanaugh, each week we try a coffee shop in the Baltimore area and review it for the show. We like to play some of our current favorite music, which is a mix of R&B, and indie music. Some of our favorite artists are SZA, Tame Impala, and Noah Kahan. NEW SHOW: “Fed After Midnight” with Greg Meredith

Show: “Fed After Midnight” with Greg Meredith
Air-time: Tuesdays from 12-1am
“Fed After Midnight” is a new late-night/early-morning show that airs from 12-1am on Tuesdays and showcases mainly metal music with some integration of hard rock and alt-rock. The title of the show is based on the 1984 movie Gremlins; if you fed a Gremlin after midnight, it would turn from a fuzzy, cuddly creature into a scaly, violent goblin who wreaks havoc and mischief, which Greg thinks reflects some aspects of metal music. How cool!
On the show, Greg discusses interesting facts behind the songs he plays such as the album it’s from, the band who wrote it, the time it was released, etc. He also includes why the songs hold importance to him and why he has chosen them for that specific episode. Greg reveals that he has recently started diving into metal music and all of its subgenres, but has already learned so much about the music, its composition, and where it came/comes from. We love the versatility!
