What’s Wrong With Eli?

Carolina Panthers v New York GiantsEli Manning is a two-time Super Bowl MVP, with two rings under his belt and the title of leader of the comeback kids that are the New York Giants. But as his brother Peyton is looking like he’s going to have a record-breaking season at quarterback, Eli is also breaking records, just not the kind you’d want to break.

Through the first six weeks of the NFL season, Eli has led the Giants to a dismal 0-6 record, the Giants’ worst start since 1976 when the team started the season 0-9. There are a lot of pieces that factor into the poor play of the Giants this year, but Eli has to be at the top of the list.

After throwing three more interceptions Thursday night against the Chicago Bears, Eli officially set a new NFL record for most interceptions through the first six games of an NFL season with 15. Eli is also on his way to being the worst 4th quarter quarterback in the NFL this year. The man who’s been so clutch for the Giants in the past has already found himself throwing eight interceptions in the 4th quarter so far this year; no other quarterback in the NFL has thrown more than three interceptions in the 4th quarter this year.

Looking at this from an optimistic standpoint though, Eli has been the best this year at forgetting which players are on his team, so at least he’s number one at something. It’s gotten to the point where a meme has been made to emphasize Eli’s commonly seen sad/confused facial reaction which has been coined as “Eli Face.”

The Giants are the only team in the NFL so far this year with more than 20 turnovers to this point. The only reason they are not considered the worst team in football right now is because the Jacksonville Jaguars exist. Still, the question must be asked, “what’s wrong with Eli?”
