Mass of Healing – Wednesday

Dear Members of the Loyola Community,

The Loyola University Maryland community will celebrate a special Mass of Healing this Wednesday, Jan. 19, for Gregory Kelly, ’14, who is dealing with an extremely complicated and serious cardiac situation. Greg’s Mass will be celebrated at 9 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Chapel.

I encourage you to join us at this special Mass, because when the Loyola family faithfully gathers together in prayer for ‘one of our own,’ we best embody who we are as a Jesuit university community.

Haiti: One Year After the Quake

While the world was still reveling in the new year, Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, was struck by a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake that happened west of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, and the surrounding areas on January 12, 2010. At least 52 aftershocks were recorded within the following weeks, leaving approximately three million people affected by the disaster and over 230,000 fatalities. The earthquake also caused major damage to the structure of Haiti – many significant landmarks and buildings were destroyed, including the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince cathedral and the main jail. WLOY Christmas Specials!

It’s Christmas so you know it’s time for the annual Ultimate Christmas Show on WLOY! Join Nick Centanni for 3 hours on Christmas Eve and another 3 hours on Christmas Day. That’s 6 unique hours featuring the best Christmas music ever made! Nick will have Christmas jokes, facts, and minimal music repeats. And you never know who will be randomly stopping by to say hi to wish you a Merry Christmas! As usual the show is unscripted and unrehearsed so you never know what to expect next. So while you decorate, wrap gifts, drink eggnog, or just hang out by the fire make it a date and don’t be late to tune in on Christmas Eve and for a second special on Christmas Day! Road to a Championship: Jamal Barney

For the Loyola Greyhounds, Cormier, one of the key players to Patsos’ Scheme, would not be considered a threat if it wasn’t for the great asset that he has in his teammate Jamaal Barney. In his senior year, Guard Jamal Barney has become the LeBron James of the Loyola Greyhounds and takes command. Elected Captain for the team, the squad looks to him to play well and to carry the team with his partner in crime Dylon Cormier. In his two seasons with the Greyhounds, Barney has led the team in scoring with 18.1 and 12.6 points per game respectively. This year, MAAC Coaches chose Barney for the All-MAAC Second Team. This year, against Drexel and UMBC, Barney showed great maturation in his game. He learned to play it slow – but not too slow. He has become more patient and he has learned not to force his shots; rather, he creates open shots and open lanes. Read the rest of this entry »
