In 2009, President Obama and the US Department of Veterans Affairs launched a comprehensive plan to end homelessness among veterans in five years. Join Col. Charles Williams, the Executive Director of the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET), and Arnold Shipman, a participant of the program, in a conversation with Both Feet In’s host, Dr. Sylvia Park, about one non-profit’s strategy to end homelessness among veterans in Baltimore City. This week Cold War Kids make their debut at the number one spot with their new album, Mine Is Yours, which drops today! “Finally Begin” is an unreleased song that hasn’t even hit the radio waves yet! Aren’t you lucky that you get to hear it before everyone else? This album is going to launch Cold War Kids into mainstream stardom if they haven’t achieved it already. Another band to keep an eye on is The Decemberists, who recently released their album, The King Is Dead.

Late Night Concert Thursday 1/27 Postponed

This Thursday 1/27 WLOY is hosting the first Late Night Concert of the spring semester in McGuire Hall from 9 until midnight. This time, we’ll be featuring two Loyola acts. A duo of juniors that call themselves Beauty and the Greek will open the event and the sophomore ensemble The Palace at 4 AM will follow.

Wacky Wednesdays: Stoneleigh Lanes

Like bowling but wish it was different? Search no more! Down the street from Loyola lay Stoneleigh Lanes, which features 16 lanes of duckpin bowling. Yes, you heard me correctly: I said duckpin bowling. And no, it doesn’t involve ducks. Although the rules are similar to normal ten-pin bowling, duckpin bowling is not the bowling that you may be used to playing. Voted the “Best Bowling Alley” by Baltimore Magazine, Stoneleigh Lane’s duckpin bowling is a new and interesting way to bowl!

Loyola Sports Roundtable: Swimming

Men’s Basketball Find Some Rhythm But Is It Enough? Part 2

In Part 1 of this two part series, I spoke about Loyola’s offense needing some more passion and charisma. When looking at the other side of the court, the men’s basketball team seems to be lacking the power and strength that is needed to stay inside the paint and to keep other teams from penetrating and scoring. Thursday’s Movie Night Features Walk The Line

It’s the first movie night of the spring semester, and we’ve chosen Walk The Line, the 2005 biographical drama directed by James Mangold. The film is based on the life of country music artist Johnny Cash, played by Academy Award nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix. Much of the focus in the movie is on Cash’s youth, his romance with June Carter (played by actress Reese Witherspoon), his ascent to the country music scene, and how all of these factors impacted his life. Walk The Line was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix) and Best Actress (Reese Witherspoon).

Men’s Basketball Finds Some Rhythm But Is It Enough? Part 1

Thus far, it can be said that Loyola Men’s Basketball Team has not had some of the greatest breaks when it comes to getting wins instead of losses. The Greyhounds, as of today, are now 8-9 overall, having a 4-3 record in our conference, the MAAC. However, it is something that can not be totally looked upon with resentment and disappointment. The Greyhounds have had a very tough schedule since the beginning of the season, taking on #15 Georgetown and division rival, Fairfield. Read the rest of this entry »

Mass of Healing – Wednesday

Dear Members of the Loyola Community,
The Loyola University Maryland community will celebrate a special Mass of Healing this Wednesday, Jan. 19, for Gregory Kelly, ’14, who is dealing with an extremely complicated and serious cardiac situation. Greg’s Mass will be celebrated at 9 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Chapel.
I encourage you to join us at this special Mass, because when the Loyola family faithfully gathers together in prayer for ‘one of our own,’ we best embody who we are as a Jesuit university community.
