Food Fridays: Holy Frijoles
November 19th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
Have you eaten too much in Boulder lately and now need some spice in your life? Start with tonight’s dinner! Head on over to Holy Frijoles for some authentic Mexican cuisine! Hoy Frijoles is located in the heart of Hampden, which is only a short drive from Loyola’s campus and a perfect place for a quick escape from the average school cafeteria.
Holy Frijoles has a wide variety of Mexican fodder, including every type of taco, burrito, chimichanga and enchilada there is, but it doesn’t end there! You can view and/or download the menu at their website.

35 Years of Loyola Radio!
November 18th, 2010 by The Professor
We’re celebrating 35 years of radio at Loyola this Saturday! It’s the exact day in 1975 when WVLC (The Voice of Loyola College) first signed on to broadcast in the cafeteria. It evolved into WLCR and ran until the mid 1990s before being wiped out in the renovation of the Student Center. In 2002 we restarted WLOY and in March of 2003 we went 24/7/365 and haven’t looked back. Now we are, along with lots of station alumni from the 70’s and 80’s. Listen in from 1-7pm on Saturday to check out all the DJs as they get back on the air again! We’ve got their original jingle and even their original vinyl!

Remember that at our events you can enter in our raffle to win tickets for concerts at Ramshead Live! I challenge you all to find someone who doesn’t like music. Seriously. Do people like that even exist? Didn’t think so.

Theater Thursday: The Mobtown Theater
November 18th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
It may be getting hectic with Thanksgiving around the corner and other holidays following soon after, but we all need a few hours to get away from the impending school exams or crowding shopping malls, right? The Mobtown Theater provides the perfect opportunity.
An intimate theater noted for it’s tradition of giving many companies their first performance space, you never quite know what you’ll find at The Mobtown Theater. The first weekend of December the Baltimore Improv Group will return to the stage with their “Back2Back 2” improv show.

The Second Annual Loyola Rising Returns!
November 17th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
The Loyola Poetry Club is hosting the Second Annual Loyola Rising on Monday, November 20 in McGuire Hall at 8PM. It’s Loyola’s ONLY music and poetry show, and last year’s high attendance proved that Loyola Rising is a must-attend event! The list of performers names almost twenty Loyola students who will be singing, rapping, breakdancing, reading original poems, playing music, liturgically dancing, building the beat, et cetera. If that does not sound titillating enough, headlining the event will be Loyola grads turned hip-hop phenomena, A Cool Stick as well as George Watsky. Big acts are playing alongside YOUR friends – be there! Oh, and WLOY is co-sponsoring the event 🙂

7 Minute Sports: Jim Paquette Part 1
November 17th, 2010 by WLOY Staff
Beginning this semester, WLOY and I will be bringing you a brand new segment called the 7 Minute Sports Slam. In each segment, I will be tackling various sports topics and pieces that will spark interest to all audiences. Each segment promises to keep podcasts to seven minutes with as much sports information as any person can handle.
As the maiden voyage for 7 Minute Sports, WLOY is bringing you an exclusive interview with Loyola’s new Athletic Director, Jim Paquette, in three independent pieces.
In the interview, I took the great opportunity to talk about an array of topics, ranging from expectations of all the sports here at the Division I Loyola to what are the exact duties of a collegiate athletic director. In this first piece, Jim and I talk about the role that an Athletic Director plays in college, the differences between the ACC and the MAAC respectively, and as well what is the ultimate goal for Loyola Athletics. I will bringing to you a new 7 minute sports clip weekly. So never miss a beat and I will keep on bringing to you more sports fun.
