A cross between performance and confession, Bad Dates is the story of a very busy woman trying to find love. You will find yourself enthralled by Haley Walker’s story; you’ll laugh and you’ll wince. Enjoy this great performance, and if you’re on the dating scene, good luck out there.

War Horse Tickets
January 14th, 2014 by The Professor

Once again, WLOY wants to send you to opening night at the Hippodrome! This time to see the remarkable theatrical version of War Horse on February 4th. Win tickets at our Thursday Coffeehouse events and during our Friday Live at Boulder shows.
A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship. England, 1914.
As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
This powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London and New York. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.
The performances are daily from 2/4-2/9, with 8:00pm shows during the week and 2 shows on Saturday (2 & 8pm) and Sunday (1:00 & 6:30pm). More details and tickets can be found here.

Wendel Patrick/Kevin Gift Interview
January 13th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
Kat and I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with former Loyola Professor and forever musical genius Kevin Gift, who is also known as Wendel Patrick. Between Kevin and Wendel he is releasing a combined number of 4 albums this January, and we had the chance to get a first look, as well find out a little about him. During the interview, we discovered the origin of his alter ego and his musical interests, and we also learned more about his experience teaching at Loyola (with a special appearance from Patricia, his former student and a current WLOY Staffer!) and much more! Listen to the whole interview to hear all about what it’s like to have two names.

Museum Mondays: Book Bindings from the Gilded Age
January 13th, 2014 by WLOY Staff
What: Book Bindings from the Guilded Age
Where: The Walters Art Museum
When: Now until January 19th, 2014
During the late 19th and early 20th century, fine book binding enjoyed a golden age of creativity and lavish decoration. These handmade, individual and highly personal objects were made not only to protect the texts they contained, but also to be admired and appreciated as portable decorative masterpieces in their own right. Some binders strove to execute traditional designs at the highest levels of technical proficiency and artistic elegance, while others chose to break away and explore new emerging styles influenced by the Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. This focus show of approximately 20 rarely seen examples from the Walters’ rare book collection will explore techniques and materials that were employed to showcase the book binder’s craft, sometimes resulting in truly fantastical creations.

Happy New Year from RadioEdu!
January 1st, 2014 by WLOY Staff
How many fifth gradersdo you know with a CD release?
Happy New Year everyone! RadioEdu ended the Fall 2013 semester in an extremely exciting fashion with a CD release for the students! This was a wonderful event highlighting the accomplishments of three remarkable fifth grade students. The amount of material that they were able to master in a short amount of time continues to astonish me as I look over the blog entries of the past three months.
We are looking forward to another great semester filled with exciting and challenging projects, and I have no doubt that the students will continue to demonstrate mastery over the increasingly difficult material while gaining confidence in their production techniques. This year we will continue with the project-based learning approach, while aiming to integrate a long-term collaboration providing the students an opportunity to demonstrate increasing autonomy in regard to audio production. We will continue to develop and hone core audio production skills and look to post more incredible content each week!
Thanks for all the support and for helping to make the first semester of RadioEdu at Eutaw-Marshburn a success!
