Don’t Tweet If You’re Gonna Be A Twit

March 26th, 2015 by WLOY Staff

Sports TalkIf you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all, and certainly don’t say it on Twitter if you’re involved in college athletics!

Social media has revolutionized the way that we communicate, allowing us to share our thoughts on a global scale instantaneously. However, those who don’t know how to harness this immense scope of power and outreach should just stay far away from it.

Athletes and those involved in college athletics, in particular, need to remember that they live under a microscope, and every tweet they post will be seen by at least somebody. It seems that WVU Men’s Basketball head coach Bob Huggins’ daughters and Bloomsburg University baseball player, Joey Casselberry, didn’t get that memo. Read the rest of this entry »

Theatre Thursdays: Wicked

March 26th, 2015 by WLOY Staff

Wicked What: Wicked

Where: The Hippodrome Theatre

When: April 1st- April 26th

We’ve all heard about Dorothy, Todo, and the gang, but there are two sides to every story. The story you may not be as familiar with is that which happened before Dorothy followed the Yellow Brick Road, the story of Elphaba and Glinda, the witches of the Oz. If that’s the case, Wicked is an absolute must-see. With a wonderfully beautiful, yet tear-jerking story line and fantastic musical numbers, such as “Defying Gravity”, “Popular”, and “As Long As You’r Mine”, Wicked will have you laughing, crying, and singing along! Don’t miss your chance to see this breath-taking performance while it’s in Baltimore! Hop on your broomstick, and head on down to the Hippodrome! Tickets are available here!

Sports Saturdays: UAB Win Means Victory Beyond the Court

March 21st, 2015 by WLOY Staff

Sports SaturdayThe University of Alabama at Birmingham shocked the sports world on Thursday when they topped 3-seed Iowa State, 60-59, providing the first major upset of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

According to brackets submitted on ESPN.com, more people picked ISU to go all the way to the Final Four than picked them to lose to 14-seed UAB in the first game.

The major upset win speaks for itself, and obviously it was an emotional win for the UAB players.

“For us, it was just huge,” UAB junior Robert Brown said. “We come here, not just to play games, but to actually make some noise and to win some games. To be able to do that and win for Birmingham, win for Coach [Jerod] Haase, it’s a great feeling.”

Brown led all scorers in the upset win with 21 points.

However, the win means so much more for UAB than just advancing. For them, it was a deep feeling of achievement and euphoria that this program, its students and its fan base desperately needed. Read the rest of this entry »
