1956: Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” reaches #1 on the Billboard chart, marking the beginning of his rise to fame as a rock ‘n’ roll superstar.
2002: Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, member of the popular girl group TLC, dies in a car accident in Honduras at the age of 30.
1976: The punk rock band the Ramones play their first concert at the Performance Studio in New York City, helping to kickstart the punk movement in the United States.
1987: U2’s album “The Joshua Tree” reaches #1 on the US charts, solidifying the band’s status as one of the biggest rock acts in the world.
1990: The Hubble Space Telescope is launched into orbit by the Space Shuttle Discovery, which would go on to capture stunning images of distant galaxies and nebulae that would inspire musicians and artists alike.
