Megan Wilde’s debut is with her EP, Wildfire. There are a range of influences with instances of classic rock, funk, blues and jazz. Just like her music, Megan has a funky/groovy voice with great range. She reminds me of a mix of the late, Amy Winehouse, Aretha franklin, again with a bluesy rock edge of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals musically/instrumentally with some Janis Joplin vibes thrown in there.
Lyrically, the EP is fun but it doesn’t have too much to it substance wise; what saves her again is her powerhouse vocals and impeccable vocal control. Even though over all this EP has a folky/blues rock sound, Megan has managed to something many pop artists have tried and failed to do… and that is that her songs are catchy and easy to remember. Her choruses are easy access to your brain, you’ll either catch yourself singing the song or the melody without even realizing it. Her song “Wildfire” has a mood similar to “Rumour Has It” by Adele as well. Megan’s introduction to us listeners, was far too short, I wish the EP was much longer and I am looking forward to what else she has to show us. I would love to see some ballads and commend her for keeping the EP high tempo and pretty fast paced.
