Lukas Nelson & Promise of real is a four piece rock band from California. The band is releasing a new album, titled: Something Real. The 9 track album is an infusion of country, southern influenced rock, and some blues; the lead vocalist Lukas Nelson as a twang and sound similar to Neil Young and Caleb Followill of the band, “Kings of Leon”. It is no surprise that every piece of the band is extremely talented, the songs are dynamic and very different from one another.
Songs like, “Don’t want to fly” are more bass and percussion drive, unlike their title track ” Surprise” which is a lot more guitar driven. The band has a very unique groove, which leads to different rhythmic changes in their songs, keeping listener like me on their toes. I wish that the mastering of the vocals were a little more clear/precise because Lukas as an insane voice, but this critique is only opinion due to music genres like rock where it is to be more raw… it just depends on personal preference. It comes as a surprise that this band is not as big as bands like Kings of Leon, because they definitely fit the scene very well. Lyrically, the songs are pretty but this is definitely not a hinderance to the sound of the band and the album because again their music compensates for things like that. I am excited to see other’s people’s response to this album and can’t wait to see what they may do in the future.
