Swimming can be a very hard sport to follow but when you do develop the skills to be an avid and loyal fan, the benefits are endless. Loyola men’s and women’s swimming this year has been giving students so many reasons to follow these fine young athletes. From Freshman to Senior, each swimmer and diver has been contributing greatness to the name of Loyola Sports.

For instance, it was just announced earlier that freshman Julien Brice broke two national records for his home land of St. Lucian as he was competing in the FINA World Short Course. There he posted a time of 53.52 seconds for the 100 Meter freestyle and a 1:04.61 minute in the 100 Meter individual medley. But it just didn’t end there. Along with those numbers, he posted times of 1:02.20 Minute for the 100 Meter butterfly, 24.55 seconds for the 50 Meter freestyle and 27.32 seconds for the 50 Meter butterfly.

Swimming has given more to Loyola students and fans. Recently, both men’s and women’s teams served losses to Boston College and Rider, resulting in huge wins for the program. The men’s team defeated Boston College 189-109 in points and Rider 170-130. The women’s team beat Boston College with a close 152-148 points and Rider 180-118. These wins proved to be very important mainly because they were invitationals and this continues to keep Loyola on track to the MAAC Tournament.

For men’s swimming, they have been receiving accolades within the MAAC. Sophomore swimmer Brendan Morris posted his fifth weekly award for swimmer of the week within the MAAC. He was able to help Loyola beat Boston College and Rider. Morris won the three individual events in which he competed. He won his first race, the men’s 1,000-yard freestyle, by finishing ahead of Rider by a time more than 14 seconds with a time of 9:56.54 minutes.

Swimming has so much more to offer to Loyola. If you happen to ever find yourself getting bored of Basketball, give these guys a try. They will definitely appreciate the help and the support.
